I'm flabbergasted at the blind gall the guy has to release those emails himself. I'm guessing he did this on his stupid own, because I doubt his lawyer would have OK'd something like that. That last line is worded so ludicrously on-the-nose that I'd have a hard time believing it's real if Jr. hadn't released it. Again, I'm dumbfounded by the sheer stupidity demonstrated here. That doesn't sound like someone who thought this was routine or might turn out to be nothing. Jr. knew exactly what this meeting was about and was excited to do it. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/emails-show-trump-jr-excited-for-russian-offer-%E2%80%98i-love-it%E2%80%99/ar-BBEeXLy?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntpLawyer now has two choices: 1) Stick with him just for the money, because he/she knows that Jr. will be paying out the ass for a lawyer for the next few months; 2) Pull the rip cord and get the hell out because his client is an idiot and might forever tarnish this lawyer's reputation.

This story is still not over. From that same NUY Tmes reporter: mobile.twitter.com/adamgoldmanNYTFYI, re Don Jr. releasing the emails: I can tell you what he was likely thinking. The emails were going to come out shortly anyway. There's an old tried and true litigation strategy -- if there's something damaging on your client that will inevitably come out, get it out there yourself first and tell it with your spin rather than waiting for your opponent to spin it. But, um, yeah, that doesn't work so well when there is NO good take on a situation, and your "getting it out there first" is literally by mere minutes, and with no prepared, careful take. I saw the NY Times story first -- I'll bet most people did. His lawyer may have advised this -- I know nothing about his lawyer, so hard for me to judge. It's not like Junior had a lot of good choices at that point. But I can tell you this much. His belligerence and boldness is a play solely to Trump's hardcore base, who will inevitably say "Well, it must be OK or he wouldn't release them like that." The trouble Junior (and Manafort and Jared and Trump Sr.) have is that this situation is way past "playing to the base." He's got Mueller to contend with, and I guarantee Mueller will not share the take of Trump's hardcore base.

By the way, were you wondering who or what "rhona" is? She's Trump's personal secretary and gatekeeper at Trump Tower. www.cnbc.com/2017/07/11/who-is-rhona-mentioned-in-donald-trump-jr-s-emails.htmlThis Russian attorney working for the Russian government uhh s on a first name basis with her, and considered sending the docs to Trump through her, but decided it was best to first have a conversation with Don Jr. about, among other things, o policy. Do you know what is really mind-numbingly stupid? That this fucking conversation took place in email to being with. And Donny Jr. didn't even think it worth deleting. That's mind-blowing.

I will admit that I've grown tired of things that merely "raise questions." I want something solid to happen. Otherwise, this is just another example of the media working itself up into a mouth-frothing frenzy for ratings nothing.
Unfortunately, "raising questions" rarely leads to anyone being held accountable for anything these days.

Remember, Watergate took a year. We are talking about potentially bringing down a president. He needss tp be tied tightly to the story with solid ropes of evidence, or 1/3 of the country will scream that the presidency was "stolen" from him.
Information about other misdeeds would be helpful, too. You can bet they're looking under all the rocks.
I think, based on that reference to Trump and Rhona in the email and some other facts, that there's an excellent Trump himself can be tied to collusion. Better to do it thoroughly and solidly than hastily.
Conversely, if by some chance he knew nothing after all, that should be settled, too.
I want it done right either way.

But, yanno, prolly just coincidence that wikileaks released all those hacked emails shortly after Junior's meeting with a Russian government agent.
Nothing to see here, folks. Benghazi!

I'm....not convinced that if we got evidence that Putin personally handed Trump a suitcase full of cash, that Trump's supporters (and almost every single Republican in Congress) wouldn't still balk at impeachment.

Lordy, I hope there are tapes.
BTW, it did occur to me that there is one way short of economic disaster that I can imagine Trump's base turning on him: evidence that he or high-ups in his campaign made sneering, elitist-y remarks about how easily they could manipulate the base. It's not difficult for me to imagine that -- I really don't think Trump and the gang really give a damn about their base as human beings. Lordy, what if there were tapes. Or emails.
Anyway. Mueller and the press can at least make it very difficult for the GOP Congress to ignore the Trump team's misdeeds. And they can help turn Independents and the better, non-crazy factions of the GOP in that direction.
I am much more optimistic about this than I was two days ago.
