Since @cassandraw and Angie have posted music today, I figured I would too. Q: What happens when ignorant, conspiracy theory woofuckery meets a so-called rapper with shit skills? A: You get a rap called "Flat Earth," that also manages to throw in a bunch of nutbag stupidity about faked moon landings, evolution, etc.

Well, I mean, Optimus , who are you going to believe -- generations of scientists and actual evidence, or this guy? Sadly, many are watching this and going "hell, yeah!". Which is why we are dooooomed. A cartoon ball, indeed. And who is making it cartoonish? ETA: One of the scariest things the alt-right has done, IMO is make it fashionable to dismiss all expertise and education as elitist bullshit -- ignorance is in, baby. Welcome to our Idiocracy. ETA: Granted, I know some of the kookier left-wing types harbor some anti-science views -- anti-vaxxers and weird "alternative" medicine and diet ideas, especially. But from what I've seen, there are more anti-science, anti-intellectual, anti-expert folks on the right. Anyone disagree?

But from what I've seen, there are more anti-science, anti-intellectual, anti-expert folks on the right. Anyone disagree? From what I've seen (strictly my opinion), far righties flat out ignore experts and call into question the credibility of experts (a tactic they also use against the press) in order to advance their agenda by ignoring and dismissing the actual science and evidence that refutes their agenda. Far lefties, on the other hand, tend to rely on pseudo-experts and other charlatans (homeopaths, naturopaths, gender studies professors , etc.), who then call into question the credibility of actual experts in order to advance their agenda by ignoring and dismissing the actual science and evidence that refutes their agenda. The outcomes are the same but the key difference seems to be that, when it comes to certain scientific topics, far lefties get suckered into believing idiots and far righties simply don't believe anyone. One is naviete. One is contrarianism. Both are ignorant.

That's a great distinction, and from what I've seen, you're right.
I know a couple of lefties who have diet and medical beliefs that I think unfounded at best and dangerous at worst -- but yeah, they have their own alternative experts telling them to drink unpasteurized milk, not vaccinate the kids, that no one should ever eat gluten (not just those with celiac disease), and so forth.
I really, really worried about the baby and toddler of this one woman I knew who swore by raw milk and no vaxxing. She wasn't stupid -- she had a graduate degree -- but she felt certain only these weird fringy people knew what they were doing when it came to health. I have to admit to butting in and shoving articles under her nose on pasteurization and vaccinations. She resented it, of course, but I thought the risk to her kids was sufficient to justify me being a wee bit pushy in making sure she at least had some real info.
She gave up on raw milk after some friend of a friend became really ill from it, and when her eldest reached school age, she was forced to give in on vaccinations. So, all's well that ends well.
She dud take her baby to a chiropractor (babies have bad backs?!) which I think is incredibly stupid, but it didn't kill the kid or anything.

I'm much more concerned about those who believe in benevolent, caring politicians, or that immoral acts are moral if approved by the proper authority. And people "just following orders" scare the hell out of me.

Agree.
*books an Asian massage for later in the evening*
Seriously though, I tried chiropractic some number of years age. I know the guy and his wife, who also works at the office and is a licensed physical therapist. Nice people. Very active in the PTA. He took x-rays, went over them with me, showed me a lot of info, talked about diet, exercise, and stretching, and generally seemed to be quite concerned with my well being. It all has a very strong air of legitimacy, which I guess is a big part of the problem. Many of the people doing it don't seem like quacks at all. And given the various truly ridicullous things believed by a good chunk of the population...

And given the various truly ridicullous things believed by a good chunk of the population... Yeah, it's all part of the "placebo theater" of chiropractic. The only advantage they have over real doctors is that they spend more time with their patients and create the impression that they care. But, they also see a lot fewer patients than real doctors, which is the main reason they have time to spend with them. They don't have any legitimate medical training and they're not trained or educated in much of anything having to do with diet and exercise, but they love to act like they're legitimate physicians. The X-Rays they take are rather hilarious to me, because the reason they use them is because x-ray technology was invented around the same time that the founder of chiro, DD Palmer, was making up chiropractic from conversations he had with a ghost. Palmer bought an x-ray machine and started taking random x-rays of people in order to give his made up bullshit an air of legitimacy. But, chiros really have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to using x-rays, as various studies have shown that not only do different chiros give wildly different diagnoses when viewing the same x-ray, some studies have shown that individual chiros give different diagnoses to the exact same x-ray when it's presented to them more than once because they mistakenly believe it is a different x-ray, because they are so grossly unqualified that they can't even tell when they're looking at something they've already seen. The entire profession is garbage and although some of them are well-meaning, they're all bullshit artist charlatans.

I saw this earlier today...and I STILL can't see straight, I'm so pissed off. How this shit can still be happening is beyond all comprehension. Also, I posted an anti-chiropractic article on Facebook awhile back. It's shocking to find out how many of your friends are vehemently pro-woo...

It makes perfectly logical sense if you approach this from the perspective that women are property and rape is a property crime.

Are they also going to try to find the turtle that's resting the earth on its back?

Are they also going to try to find the turtle that's resting the earth on its back? Come now, I know Mitch McConnell had a bad week, but the Earth isn't REALLY resting on his back.
