Good luck getting a room at this point! You might have to camp.
I would love to go myself.

Well, I can't go now, but I have relatives there, so I would have been fine.

Our original plans had us near Thermopolis, WY for the eclipse. Unfortunately, our Oregon / Washington substitution for Utah and Colorado blew those plans out of the water.
OTOH, after almost a month in the Land of Legal Cannabis, I'm finding it hard to get stressed about anything. 😬

ETA: Dammit, that's actually the first day of school in Miami-Dade, so I guess I can't go to SC. As Mark Twain probably didn't actually say: "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education."

I'm probably an hour's drive from at least a few seconds of totality, but I don't think I'll bother. I've seen two total eclipses in my life (March 1970 through middle GA and I think 1980 straight through Atlanta). You should read about the 'controversy' of closing the local schools for the eclipse: www.pickensprogressonline.com/2015/editorials/staff-written-edits

I'd been fretting about missing the eclipse, but just realized that Buffalo will be directly in the path of the next total mainland U.S. eclipse in 2024, so I can get a free ringside seat then with my family rather than paying a bloody fortune and traveling much further now. I can wait. *marks calendar* en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_eclipse_of_April_8,_2024

I'm geeking out on Monday -- playing hooky and going to this: www.amnh.org/calendar/hayden-special-event-total-solar-eclipseI forgot all about getting eclipse glasses until today. Had to look at about 20 sites before I found any. The bad news is that I had to pay 30 bucks to have them emergency shipped to me in time. The good news is that I can reuse them in 2024, when my hometown will be in the 100% eclipse zone! A visit to the family will definitely be in order. The other good news is that the shipment comes with five pairs (that was the minimum). I've got two options: I can save the extras and give them to my nieces and nephew in 2024, or I can give them away on Monday to those who didn't think ahead. I'm trying to convince a friend or two to geek out with me, but I fear 'tis an uphill battle.

Who organizes the outings around this place? I just found out we could have all met up and listened to Bonnie Tyler belt out "Total Eclipse of the Heart " during the eclipse, on the Royal Carribean Eclipse Cruise! 😅

Rob's supposed to be in charge of outings, but after his failure to book us on the Eclipse cruise, I've gone rogue and started planning some events. Our outrage party will be yuuuuge, believe me.

It's ECLIPSE DAY! I'm turning it into a holiday, as I suspect many are. I'm dawdling about with coffee and a muffin. Soon I shall head to the Natural History Museum where I shall geek out yuugely for the afternoon with lectures and live feed of the total eclipse and a viewing of the partial eclipse out on their terrace. I am crossing my fingers the place isn't completely overrun with children running about and screaming, though that may be too much to ask.

I made a pinhole camera yesterday, and our route into Yellowstone is on the 98% line, so we'll take a long break in a rest area somewhere. My stepson and his wife have to navigate the eclipse traffic from Denver to Yellowstone today, so they've got a worse day ahead than we do.
