I'm sure. Gawd, I hate when people I used to respect turn out to be complete slimeballs.

*sigh*We may need a separate Spacey thread: Or maybe just rename this one 'The Hollywood Freak Show' and be done with it. I doubt this'll be the last one to fall. I saw an article about Andy Dick being accused, too...but that is such a non-surprise that I didn't grab the link. The guy has made his whole living being as inappropriate as possible in all situations.

And now a law firm is embroiled in the mess, including famous lawyer David Boies. Way more at the link. www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/545255/He's probably best known for his work on the Bush v. Gore case, but I know him as the guy who recruited me for my first job after law school. He's a hell of a fine, brilliant lawyer -- I am really disappointed in him for his role in this.

Don't you read my links? Boies is all over the piece from the New Yorker. Meanie.

Robo, no one reads your links.
(I read the New Yorker article, too. I'm just mean.)

Man, this is one I hope isn't true. And I'm not even particularly a Tyson fan.

I regret to say that raping unconscious women wasn't necessarily regarded as reprehensible by many in the 1980s.
See, e.g., the "heroes" of Sixteen Candles.
I always thought those scenes were horrible, and that Jake was a complete asshole (actually, Farmer Ted, too). But most, at the time, pretty much thought no harm was done to the girl, and even if there was, she was asking for it. I was just about the only person I knew who had problems with those scenes and didn't think Jake was a dreamboat.
I am fairly certain someone slipped me a roofie once, back in college (since, generally speaking, I don't have blackouts after one drink). Luckily my friends took care of me.
Anyway. It would not surprise me to hear that a lot of guys did something like this back in the 80s and didn't think it was all that bad. (Needless to say, I vehemently disagree now and did then.)

Yeah, I know about 16 Candles. I really liked that movie, but the subtext went past me at the time. So did the horribleness of "Long Duk Dong."
Lots of stuff that was funny when you were a kid becomes cringeworthy when you're an adult.

what's weird to me is that I know grown women who still think that movie is awesome and that Jake is dreamy.
