For those unaware: www.cnn.com/2016/11/23/politics/nikki-haley-picked-for-un-ambassador/index.htmlI like Haley a lot. I think she's smart, serious, and--as far as I can tell--relatively honest. Predictably, she and Trump clashed pretty heavily during campaign season. She was behind Rubio from the get go, switched to supporting Cruz when Rubio dropped out, then eventually allowed that she would vote for Trump in the GE, even though she didn't like him (and FYI, for those looking to scapegoat GOP leaders as somehow responsible for Clinton's loss, Haley is a good pick). But she's prepared to accept the job. To me, this is--tough to say this--a pretty shrewd move by Trump (or someone on his team). Haley can take this post without having to sign on to Trump in full, yet by accepting it, she does help stabilize the relationship between GOP leaders and Trump. Plus, there's the added bonus that she seems particularly well-suited for the job. Thoughts?

I'm heading into work now so only time for a drive by post, but this is another example of Trump surprising us with his post-election actions. I never thought he was the buffoon that everyone says he is, though he does act like it at times. I think he's smarter than people give him credit for, and I think we all know he's shrewd and savvy and knows how to get things done. As I said early on, this is a fascinating experiment. I hope it continues to go well.

It is interesting, as she's an outspoken critic of Trump. www.thestate.com/news/politics-government/politics-columns-blogs/the-buzz/article81348162.htmlHaley said divisive rhetoric – like that seen in the presidential campaign – drives violence like the Charleston mass slaying. Although I'll admit to having limited knowledge of her, I like Haley and was hoping she'd possibly run for the WH someday. I wonder if this will help her, or just get her out of Trumps way for now.
It will make her lt. gov take the lead position, and he can now run in 2018.
She doesn't have a lot of foreign policy experience, but this would be a good place to get it. Which again, could play well if she ever runs herself. It'll be harder for her to run against Trump as his Ambassador if he plans on running for a 2nd term, but it might set her up nicely in 2024.
