To note -- some of my relatives were strongly opposed to same sex marriage. I didn't shriek at them and call them bigots because that does nothing but lock them into their opinion. Through talking with them, I've brought one over to think it should be legal. I'm pretty proud of that. I've brought another into at least uncertainty over it; he doesn't support it exactly, but no longer actively opposes it. Yeah, I want better, but that is a start. I've done this, too, with a simple thought exercise - I had them imagine their spouse/significant other was in the hospital, maybe even on their death bed, and they were not considered family so they couldn't visit. How would they feel? It took a lot more work to convince them that other marriage rights should go along with that, but it was a good way to at least get them to put themselves in someone else's place and engage their empathy. All without any raised voices. The minute voices get raised, or you call someone names, they shut down and you might as well forget it.

I had to be a smartass, because reasons, but I think they'll ultimately suggest something they think will mollify their base. I don't see a registration actually being carried out - but if that unlikely scenario WERE to happen, I'd be at the front of the line to be registered. Go on - sign me up for everything, asshats.
But again - I don't see it happening. I really, really hope I'm right on that.

Oh, pshaw. Took me all of five minutes. Photobucket is finicky sometimes - you might have to fiddle with it before it will take the image.

Gimme a little bit, and I'll throw together a couple of screenshots. I can figure out the Robo stuff, but I don't know how to get the emoticon onto Photobucket to begin with. I know, I'm very lame at this. Ohhh - Assuming you have a Photobucket account and links to images/smileys you want to use, you can click "Upload" at the top of the Photobucket page: Then click the "WWW" button, insert the URL to the image or smiley, and click "Upload." Photobucket will add the image to your PB account. The image you upload will show up as a preview at the bottom of the page - if you click on it, you can go to another page that gives you the direct link to insert here.

Okay, here's how to add your own emojis for personal use: First, click on "Profile" at the top of your screen. You'll get to a page that looks like this image - click "Edit Profile": On the next page, click "Settings." Finally, scroll to the bottom of the next page and click "Set Changes" in the "Your Personal Smileys" section: Every time you click "Set Changes" another five URL entry boxes will pop up. Enter URLs to the smileys you want to use. I'm not sure if you have to click the set changes button again to save them, but I did. Once you do that, the smileys you added will show up when you go to the full editor for a post and click the emoji button.

I'm still trying to figure out what Ford Robo said to do, but in the process, I found something. Did you all know we can give each other GIFTS? I had no idea! Gimme a little bit, and I'll throw together a couple of screenshots.

It's a good idea to copy it to your photobucket. Then, follow robo's rules above to add them to your profile.

Hehe - in the reply box at the bottom of the thread, you'll see a smaller "Reply" button on the right-hand side of the red strip. Click that, and the full-featured editor comes up. From there, you can choose the picture icon and enter a URL for the image.

Hey! I'm sore offended!! NO ONE is as insufferable as me.
Well, maybe you. And RT, that's a given. And probably robovowels, especially on Tuesdays.

And you are welcome to that opinion. I tend toward the view that I will condemn bad behavior where I see it, period, to the degree I feel it deserves it. I happen to think punching someone simply because they voted for Trump -- which is assault and a felony, and which, apparently, has happened, is not something we should pretend is fine because other people are racist. IMO, a yuuuge problem with political dialogue in this country is each side's tendency to throw rocks at the other and not their own. I won't do it. I condemn racism with all my brain and heart. I also condemn assault. While I know it sounds wishy-washy, I agree with both of you. Both racism AND assault on Trump voters need to be condemned, loudly and often. But I think I get where Christine is coming from - with things like racism, that have been going on since this country was founded, there's a fear that the message will get muddled or watered down if we're also spreading our focus to other issues. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of issues that currently need to be addressed, so I definitely understand that fear.
