Story's been developing over the past hour or two. Toronto police haven't released any info about the driver yet but the belief is that it was intentional, as witnesses say the driver seemed to be intentionally speeding up and aiming for pedestrians. No word yet if it was terror-related. Canadian police (and media) usually don't release identifying info about suspects early, probably in order to quell any media hysteria and runaway stereotyping. It'd be nice if the US would adopt a similar approach www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/pedestrians-struck-white-van-1.4631564

I understand it was a rented van, as well, thus lending credence to the idea that it was a planned attack.
Maple Leafs play tonight. It's going to be pretty rough, I think. Puck drop in 15 minutes.

His LinkedIn page (assuming CBS identified the correct person) only has 10 followers and no real information listed for company, school, professional skills, etc. It's virtually blank, which makes me suspect it might've been created as part of a cover/attempt to establish some sort of credibility (i.e., to quell suspicions or keep him under the radar).

Well, Heavy--grain of salt--says he developed some kind of parking app and that the running theory right now is mental illness. I kinda hope so, really, because we just don't need another terrorist incident. Anyway, if CBS has it right, he'd be of Armenian descent, I guess, which of course could be totally inconsequential, though there is some political shit going down right now in Armenia: www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-43868433

I know I'll probably regret starting this tangent at some point, but it just seems like this should be noted:
It is fucking hard to be in law enforcement, I think. It demands a lot from people, because of situations like this. But the above is the way it has to be, as opposed to unloading ten rounds into a guy's back because he might have a gun.

Terrorism is a form of mental illness, IMO. It's time we started looking at root causes for these mass attacks, instead of blaming whatever's the buzzword of the day.
