I wouldn't go nuts just yet (it's too late for a good chunk of my FB friends).
It's worth remembering that SC Justices aren't beholden to a Party or a President once they're on the bench. Look at Souter. Or even Kennedy, for that matter. Really, I don't think Kagan or Roberts have been exactly what their appointers had imagined (okay, Alito and Sotomayor have been).
Whomever Trump appoints has got to get through the Senate, still. And I think the appointment process is unlikely to beat out the midterms, so this is a yuge chunk or red meat the Dems can use in Senate races (though they'll probably screw it up).
And the favorites include a couple of Kennedy's clerks, so his replacement might be a lot like him, or at least share his penchant for being in that swing seat.

And I think the appointment process is unlikely to beat out the midterms We'll have a new justice seated before the Court reconvenes in October. Nominees only require a simple majority for approval and I don't see any Republicans voting against one with midterms coming up. Besides, the GOP dares not risk losing seats in the midterm so they'll be well motivated to rush the appointment through.

Trump interviewing potential candidates:
Great, I mean that's very interesting, but what do you think about whether a president can self-pardon?

Besides, the GOP dares not risk losing seats in the midterm so they'll be well motivated to rush the appointment through. There's already dueling commentary on this, since the last appointment was delayed until after an election, purposefully.

Then you missed Schumer's rebuttal.

Then you missed Schumer's rebuttal. Why would I have needed to see Schumer's rebuttal to know that the commentary was one-sided "on McConnell's part?" But you're right that he's pushed back against McConnell's hypocritical bullshit. I'd love it if more people would, but I honestly don't think it'd make a difference. Congressional Dems simply have little-to-no leverage. And, unfortunately, unless Schumer can swing at least 50 votes to his side, there's absolutely nothing he can do about it if McConnell wants to push it through.

All Dems can do is basically shout "That's not fair!" To which the GOP response would be "Neener neener neener".
