As I've stated numerous times, I can't stand Trump and think he's tantamount to human garbage. And, whenever he says or does something bad, he should definitely be called out on it, criticized for it, and even ridiculed for it when appropriate (not that it seems to have any persuasive effect on his base).
But, many people who are against him are thirsty AF for any little crumb of something he said/did that they can pounce on, attack, and get those "#resistance clicks," so much so that they often - either willfully or due to incompetent over-eagerness- rush out with an out-of-context snippet and spread a patently false story.
This week's culprit is NBC News. They started with this Friday tweet (which I saw repeated as "fact" in at least a half dozen stories this weekend):
They then got called out for cutting out the entire context of what he said and, begrudgingly, corrected their lie...
...but not for two days, on a Sunday, after the news cycle on this story had already run its course and pretty much died out anyway.
Trump gives us plenty of trash to criticize him about. But, this kind of sloppy, "literal fake news" bullshit only feeds into his attacks on the press and gives succor to the deluded beliefs of his base.
Sigh...remember when major news outlets actually did their jobs with dignity and deliberation?
That memory is fading fast.
