So, if you missed this story from a month or two ago, Johnny Depp has filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard (as well as a suit against Daily Mail for calling him a "wife-beater") for her Washington Post op-ed last year that implied he was physically abusive to her and that she was the victim of domestic violence at his hands. She's made the claim before, back when their divorce was going on.
Now, the story is starting to get out that Depp's lawsuit reveals evidence that strongly suggests that it was actually Depp who was the victim of domestic assault from Heard, rather than the other way around. This suggests that the video she released back around the time of their divorce - where he was supposedly drunk and throwing a glass - which she used to make her case in the court of public opinion that he was a secret abuser and she was a victim, was actually staged by her, filmed/edited in such a way to rob it of context and make him seem awful and her innocent.
That last part, if true, is damning. Video evidence from 87 surveillance cameras is 87 more pieces of surveillance footage than Smollett had to support his story. He also apparently has depositions from 17 "neutral third-party witnesses" refuting Heard's claims. I'm no lawyer, but 17 sworn depositions from supposedly neutral parties (2 of which are from police officers), along with 87 videos, seems like a lot of evidence with which to make one's case.
There's also this, which was from right around the time of their divorce and Heard's claims that he was the abuser:
Put this in context of the fact that she was arrested in 2009 for domestic abuse against her girlfriend at the time and, if Depp's claims are also true, Heard sounds really unhinged and a secret serial abuser (again, if these claims are true).
This Twitter thread contains pics of Depp's black eye plus snippets from court documents. The claims made here are shocking, not only of the abuse, but the claim that Heard strategically manipulated the narrative of their divorce to cast Depp as the abuser and her as the victim so that she could callously capitalize on the nascent (at that time) #MeToo movement and propel her public notoriety and career.
Take particular note of the screen caps of selected sections from the court documents:

Earlier this month, it was reported that Depp was suing his ex-wife over her allegations of domestic abuse—allegations she addressed in a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post. Depp's lawsuit referred to Heard's claims as nothing more than an "elaborate hoax," and presented evidence that suggested Depp was the one who endured physical abuse during the marriage—not the other way around.
"The op-ed depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her," the complaint reads. Though Heard's Washington Post piece didn't specifically name Depp, attorneys said the implications are "categorically and demonstrably false." The suit also states that Heard's abuse allegations "have been conclusively refuted by two separate responding police officers, a litany of neutral third-party witnesses, and 87 newly obtained surveillance camera videos."

There's also this, which was from right around the time of their divorce and Heard's claims that he was the abuser:
Depp claimed on the night of April 21, 2016, he was late for Heard’s 30th birthday dinner. When he returned home, Depp claimed Heard was upset and began criticizing him. He claims he was reading in bed when Heard became “aggressive and violent, punching him twice in the face.”
...
During the couple’s legal battle, Depp’s security guard, Starling Jenkins, testified about the night in question, though he did not witness the alleged attack. He said Heard had been celebrating her birthday at the couple’s apartment with some friends.
Jenkins said his shift ended at 11:00 PM, right around when Heard’s guests were leaving, and Depp had not yet returned home.
He claimed he returned the next day to take Heard and her friends to Coachella.
“When I entered the residence,” Jenkins testified, “Amber explained to me that she had thrown Johnny’s cell phone — and the wallet containing it — off the balcony the night before.”
Jenkins said he was able to use “Find My Phone” to help him find where Depp’s belongings had ended up but when he couldn’t find them, he asked several homeless men he found in the area for help.
