Thought it was a strong show. Several good matches last night.
Very strong opening match - 5 on 5 - that I found highly entertaining. Omega and the Young Bucks doing the basketball shtick was pretty funny. The ending also added a really nice element of drama to the Page/Omega feud because this loss seems to knock Page down in the rankings. I'm interested to see how that affects their rumored match at All Out in September.
Stu Grayson took a nasty bump when he did his spiral flip off the top rope to the outside of the ring. You can see his head smash the concrete and it was really painful to watch. He said on Twitter that he was fine which is great but it could've been a lot worse. Glad it wasn't.
The tag team match was good but Cash Wheeler got a nasty cut on his arm in a freak accident. I hope he's okay but they had to rush the finish to end it early due to his injury. Another reminder that wrestling may be scripted, but it sure as hell isn't "fake."
Based on all the hints they dropped last night, it seems like the CM Punk deal is already sealed and they're gonna debut him next month on Rampage in Chicago.
I thought the Chris Jericho vs Nick Gage match was decent but also clearly illustrated that Gage has almost zero actual wrestling skill. His whole shtick is the pizza cutter and smashing people with light bulbs and glass. Ooh....soooo hardcore (sarcasm). But, to me, that stuff just gets old after a while. I've seen a few of his matches on YT and I've never been impressed. Last night's match was entertaining, if not a bit too bloody, but confirmed my negative opinion of Gage's actual ring skills. The emporer has no clothes in this case and that was exposed last night on national TV.
AEW's been on a great streak lately and it doesn't seem like it'll let up anytime soon. With the signing of Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, I'm really looking forward to what they have in store over the next couple of months.
