I remember shaking my head at Sinema's rise to power not all that long ago, on the basis that she's something of a clueless twit. But I was told I was wrong, that her victory in Arizona was a Great Thing, that she was a real individual who brought new life to Congress (I was told this by Dems/progressives/never-Trumpers). Now, those same people have turned on Sinema like jackals:
Read the comments. One would think she was the first and only person on Congress ever accused of corruption or of cronyism.
ETA: Also "really needs a win right now"?? WTF, Dowd? Is that really the important thing here?

As we discussed earlier here, a lot of this "drama" is the Democrats fault. They got into power with a razor thin majority against a wildly unpopular and polarizing President. They somehow misconstrued that as a whole sale mandate from the public and went bold with their agenda. This naturally caused opposition from the more moderate factions of the party who are desperately trying to avoid being swept away in a potential mid-term red wave.
Sinema was NEVER going to be a progressives dream.

She's always been a clueless weirdo, imo. I think the Dems embraced her at the beginning for the same reason they did many others whose ideals/values didn't line up all that great with theirs; they took the stance that if Trump is in office, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
This type of tactic has burned both the left and the right over the years but seems to be more common right now on the left. When they feel a huge threat - Trump, in this case - they'll eagerly jump into bed with whomever they think will help them stand against and defeat the great enemy they see before them. Time and again, this has proven to be incredibly stupid and short-sighted, no matter who's doing it, as it almost always comes back to bite them in their collective ass.
In the case of the Dems, there's been Sinema, Cuomo, Avenatti, The Lincoln Project...I'm sure the list will grow as time goes on. Hell, I'm sure an argument could be made to throw Biden and Harris on that list too, if things stay on the current course.
