If becoming a citizen is a prerequisite to fighting injustice, then perhaps those inclined to fight injustice should target the worst spots around the globe. Perhaps Stewart could apply for citizenship in North Korea, Pakistan, or Russia... Come on, that's just a variation on the "Starving children in Africa" argument. Also, it's possible to actually do something about injustice in the US - even if one were inclined, what's the likelihood of applying for citizenship in North Korea, Pakistan, or Russia and being able to do anything, even if one is a rich celebrity?

Is that any reason we shouldn't ship Rob off to North Korea?

Is that any reason we shouldn't ship Rob off to North Korea? Well, you'd have to take over all the modding and admin duties by yourself.

Come on, that's just a variation on the "Starving children in Africa" argument. Yes and no. I'm engaging in a little hyperbole, to be sure. But then so are people like Stewart who imagine that they would become citizens to fight Trump. Come on, that's ridiculous. What's he going to do, become a citizen and then...what? Reply to Trump's tweets? Sign a petition at Change.org? And those things are going to be magically more effective because of his citizenship status? Silliness.

True, other than voting (and maybe making campaign contributions - I am not sure what the restrictions are on foreign contributors to political campaigns), there isn't much Stewart can do by becoming a citizen that he isn't doing now. But it would be a real statement (props to him if he does it, as opposed to all those celebrities who claim they are going to move to Canada or France when we know they're full of it), plus it would negate all the "Shut up, you aren't even an American" arguments. Sure, it would mostly be a symbolic gesture, but sometimes those are meaningful.

He also now has a snappy comeback to, "Mind your own business, you're not a US citizen and this isn't the Federation!"
