John McCain has been diagnosed with brain cancer. t.co/6pztqldOrS?amp=1I'm so sorry to hear this. Sometimes I've wanted to spank the man (like when he chose Palin as his VP), but mostly I'm an admirer -- certainly of his service to our country, and often for his stances. I don't always agree with him, but I've never doubted his patriotism. This happens to be the two-year anniversary of my dad's death, which doesn't have a damn thing to do with anything except that it makes me feel this news that much more, if that makes any sense. Some people beat brain cancer. I hope he is one of them.

Was just about to post this myself. I deeply, deeply disagree with him on almost everything, but he's still a good man. I hope his treatment is successful.

I hope things go well for him. I also hope he has the good sense to step down from his office.

I actually have a brain cancer story.
When I was writing a paper in law school, the professor I was working with advised me to go talk to another professor at the school, who was an expert in a narrow area I touched on in one portion of it.
So I went to the guy's office and he gave me some very helpful thoughts and suggested resources. We were about half an hour into the conversation when his phone rang. He signalled me to wait. Listening to the conversation, I realized he was scheduled for brain surgery THE NEXT MORNING.
I stammered my apologies. He said, "nonsense, that's why I'm here." And he spoke to me for another 15 minutes about my paper.
He was out for the rest of that semester, but he recovered and returned the semester after that, and I took a class with him (which turned out to be my favorite class by far in law school).
Anyway. I hope McCain is like my professor.

My best wishes for a speedy recovery for John McCain are tempered by the inconvenient truth that before he was grounded by what appeared to be an eye surgery, he was ready to fly to Washington and cast a vote to deny healthcare coverage to 32 million Americans according to the latest Congressional Budget Office score of the Republican Trumpcare plan.
It is fortunate for McCain as a Congressman he enjoys pretty good health insurance. Hopefully, when he recovers the irony of this situation won't be lost upon him. If he's as good a man as he's supposed to be it won't be.

When McCain successfully fought off Republican and Democratic challengers for his Senate seat, his position was firm and it was to repeal and replace Obamacare, not repair it. McCain's problem was with the process Mitch McConnell employed to craft the Republican "alternative." What McCain said in June was a complaint about an end run around the Senate's regular way of doing business, "I do not like the way that this thing is being put together, and I think it's wrong. And I think the American people, by not knowing what's in our bill, are more and more swinging towards what is clearly a failed policy, and that is, of course, Obamacare. We need to come out with what we stand for, what we believe in and how we're going to implement it — that's the way democracies are supposed to work." Then you look at how McCain has voted recently on healthcare issues and the odds of an epiphany seem remote. I have the utmost respect for McCain for what he has given for this country and his service in the military and Congress. But he has not been the "maverick" he parlayed into an cool image for quite some time. It's comparable to how I feel about one of my favorite actors. I still like Clint Eastwood movies, but as time has passed I don't like Clint Eastwood.

I too get disappointed when He doesn't live up to his old maverick image. But be all that as it may, he's a sight better for my money than a lot of other senators and congress critters, not to mention our president. At the very least, I feel confident he'd never, oh, collude with a foreign power. Sadly, that's not a degree of honor we can take for granted these days. Whoever replaces him, if he needs replacing, could well be much worse in a number of ways.
I would never wish cancer on any human being, including Mr. Trump. But even if I were inclined to do so, there'd be a big long list of people I'd choose before John McCain.
Anyway. I sincerely share your hope if he takes part in a future healthcare vote, he bears in mind what it would have meant for an uninsured person to have his illness, and acts accordingly. I noticed a lot of people tweeting that sentiment to him, along with wishes for his recovery.

I'm gonna pass on this thread because, you know, I prefer those who weren't captured.

I'm gonna pass on this thread because, you know, I prefer those who weren't captured. *banninates Haggis* (Seriously, that was one the ugliest comments Trump spewed, certainly when it came to members of his own party. When you consider what McCain suffered, and without betraying his country, and then remember that Mr. BoneSpur Billionaire couldn't be in a room with a Russian official for an hour without giving out our ally's confidential info...)

Referencing our other thread on Comey, well, we now know McCain wasn't drunk during Comey's testimony. And I feel badly, because I laughed at the Muffin Man meme we posted, even though I knew something was wrong that day (I suspected dementia). McCain has an unspeakably tough road ahead in a life that already has had far too much suffering. No one recovers from this sort of tumor, barring a miracle. It is the most aggressive brain cancer one can have. I've had two friends, a family member, and more than enough patients with this to know how awful it is. The likelihood of him returning to work is very small.

I'm really, really sorry to hear that. I was hoping he'd be like my professor or Jimmy Carter. The man, as you say, has suffered enough in his life.

Kelli Ward sounds like a real piece of work. Or is that a piece of shit?

It's despicable. I hope Kelli Ward goes down in flames. A couple things to share. First, some rare footage of McCain's P.O.W. release: Second, a description of what John McCain endured as a P.O.W. ( in an article echoing c.e.lawson's grim prognosis, and explaining why people shouldn't say to him "you'll beat this thing!"): ^ Yeah, that's the guy whose heroism Mr. Bonespur Golfcart McBigMouth dissed. Third, I have to confess to breaking down into tears just now at a tweet of Meghan McCain's: accompanied by this pic: Again, I know my emotional reaction is at least partly because the anniversary of my dad's death was a couple of days ago and the McCain news is making a tug at my personal grief. But I really am relating to Meghan and feeling for the whole family, hoping they have as much good time left to them as possible. And, yeah, it really pisses me off to see Ms. Ward trying to wrest the seat out of his hands mere days after his diagnosis. You know what, missy? You can wait. And again, I hope you loooooose big time when the time comes, and someone with more integrity and compassion gets the spot instead.

Yeah, NT -- Kelli Ward is acting like a piece of s**t. And I think it's going to cost her a lot of votes. Vulture is the perfect word to describe her.
