If there's only national enquirer level evidence (I did not see the clip and am not in a position to judge it), then the story is WTF are we doing spending 22 million on it and WTF are we doing putting crackpots in official positions at the pentagon. Sure, I agree. But that wasn't the story at all that I was seeing. The story was legitimizing his claims and using the videos as supposed evidence. Hey, how 'bout some grassy knoll footage in the next segment: I would have kept watching if there was any hint of a "why are we throwing millions away on this silliness?" And maybe then they could have called up the ol' asteroid protection program, or what ever it's called, where we've wasted millions more on a Hollywood-esque what-if scenario.

To be fair, you said you only watched for a few minutes.

is this the clip? I'm going to watch it while I eat dinner, but to note, the banner across the bottom reads "PENTAGON SPENT MILLIONS TO RESEARCH UFOS." As opposed to, say, "ARE UFOS WATCHING US? NEW EVIDENCE SAYS YES!"

Lots of things can be UFOs. The main criterion is that the flying objects are simply "unidentified."
That doesn't imply that they are aliens.

No. That's not Erin Burnett and that's not Elizondo (the Pentagon guy). That vid--with James Fox--appears to be from today.

I'll keep looking. I'm genuinely curious to see it now.
To be fair, it seems a lot of news outlets covered this story in some fashion (including Fox, heh).

Found it! I think! www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2017/12/19/luis-elizondo-intv-ufo-pentagon-program-purpose-other-life-not-alone-sot-ebof.cnnWill watch it shortly. ETA: Damn it, I think that's still just a snippet of it. I SHALL NOT REST until I've found the whole thing! ETA: aHA!!!! ETA: OK. First off, it says "new tonight". I don't see "breaking news." And yes, I think that's quite different. Second, while I'm not convinced ET is visiting us, I'm interested that these things are out there, whatever they may be, and that the government has a $22 million program to look into it, which I for one did not know. I do think it's news. Actually, I think it's interesting. Opinions can differ, of course, but this is not, IMO, comparable to running a story on favorite Halloween candy instead of covering the Manafort indictment.

Well, that explains the chemtrails. All this time I thought those were angel farts. ETA: I'd actually like to hear more about this -- mostly because I'd like to understand if that $22 million is justified. It might be -- there might be some sort of threat out there. (could Rocket Man have better rockets than we thought? I dunno.). Or it might be a massive waste of money. I'm not in a position to say. I'm just taken aback that we have such a program, and curious what it is those pilots and instruments are seeing.

It's possible that I was wrong, that there wasn't a "breaking news" banner, but I'm pretty sure there was. It was the reason I actually stopped on CNN: I wanted to know what the breaking news was. Nonetheless, imo this is National Enquirer level bullshit. While there may be some new info on government programs buried in all of this, the gist of the piece is still promulgating wing-nuttery, that there are extra-terrestrials visiting Earth. They're aren't, imo.* But if you really are interested, I have some alien autopsy videos I could sell you. $19.95 apiece, plus shipping and handling... * Also, I suspect the set of people who believe there are aliens visiting us intersects significantly with the set of people who believe Elvis is still alive, the set of people who believe OJ was innocent, and the set of people who voted for Donald Trump.

Maybe we need a separate thread about UFOs.
$22 million is pretty small change, and given the implications if there were aliens visiting us, it's one of those "Very small probability, very high impact" situations that, IMO, does merit the government at least looking at. It's the same reason so many astronomers are devoted to SETI - no one thinks it's very likely we will actually make contact with an alien civilization, but the tiny possibility that we will, or at least, discover one, makes it worthwhile to investigate.
So I disagree that this is National Enquirer level bullshit.
