A little English football for the holiday season and a new term to toss around... Yesterday, Bristol City--a Championship flight team in England, the second tier of English football--took out Manchester United in a quarterfinal match of the League Cup tournie (the Carabao Cup) with a goal in the 93rd minute, just before time expired. Needless to say, thay were quite happy. Watcheth thou the celebration here (second clip): deadspin.com/bristol-city-fans-invade-the-pitch-after-last-minute-wi-1821481523Here's some pics of the celebration: www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/bristol-city-manchester-united-carabao-11731583I thought it was quite nice; lots of kids on the pitch celebrating with not only other fans, but also the players. It was like the aftermath of a huge upset ein in an NCAA game, football or basketball. But apparently, it was "tinpot" in the eyes of some: www.somersetlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-city-fans-ridiculed-tinpot-958793In this context, a "tinpot club" is simply a lower tier club, thus such celebrations reflect the clubs's apparent lack of importance. Meh, I liked it; I was happy for the players and fans.
