I suppose everyone has now heard the call of #Oprah2020, the idea that maybe Oprah Winfrey could run for President against Trump in 2020. She certainly has the money and the connections to make a run. And if she was running against Trump, I wouldn't bet against her, because lets' be honest, she'd drive up turnout--mostly to her benefit, I think--like nobody's business. Of course, that doesn't mean she'd be a good President, anymore than Trump's wealth and connections meant he'd be a good President. People--serious people--seem to recognize this pitfall. For instance, Sally Kohn at CNN: And yet, she immediately tosses those concerns away, because after all, Oprah is special: Oh. My. God. Hero worship much? And this is exactly the sort of nonsense that Trump fanboys said about Trump in 2016 (and before). Of course, such fanboys were largely ridiculed for their fanboyism (and rightly so, imo). But now, it's all good, because it's Oprah... #shootmenowshootmenow

I have always liked Oprah. I used to enjoy her show way back in college. I think she's smart and talented and lovely and personable and generous and supremely capable of a lot of things. The list could go on. And she wears eyeglasses better than anyone out there. I actually wish I could be her, LOL. But people...this bandwagon is a bit premature, don't ya think? Cassandra was lauding Bill Kristol and Evan McMullen the other day as being the sorts of Republicans she admires (or something like that). But really, Bill Kristol has become so blind in his hatred of Trump that I just roll my eyes whenever he says anything these days. Including his recent Tweets about Oprah. He has a series of them from Jan 8. Geeze, Bill, I'm more worried about YOUR mental capacity these days than I am about Trump's. thehill.com/homenews/media/367919-bill-kristol-tweets-support-for-oprah-using-im-with-her-hashtagInterestingly, he's walking this back already. Soooo...I can't at this early stage say if Oprah would be a good choice for POTUS or not. I'd have to learn more about her ideas and platform. Like any sane voter should do. #geeze,Bill

"sounder on economics than Bernie Sanders" and "understands Middle America better than Elizabeth Warren" are terms that also apply to my dog.
Are you sure that tweet was to be read as praise?

HAHAHAHAHA! You may be right, Don. I might have underestimated Kristol's wit here. However...if you look at the several successive Tweets in question, and the fact that he used the hashtag #I'mWithHer more than once, and went as far back as to her view in 2009 re: the Iraq regime change, he looks sort of serious to me. Apparently he said in an email that he was "tongue in cheek" with those Tweets, but now I think he's just embarrassed and walking it back, LOL. Or...I could have read it too literally and been sucked right in.

That's hilarious! The only thing I would add in there somewhere is one of Elon Musk's Teslas after a few more software updates.

It would probably be cheaper for Oprah to give every terrorist a new car than continue the wars in the middle east.

It would probably be cheaper for Oprah to give every terrorist a new car than continue the wars in the middle east. That would almost certainly create more terrorists. Course, wars in the Middle East can do that, too.

People shouldn't forget that Oprah is responsible for unleashing both Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz on the world (who have done much more harm to the nation than good), and hyper-credulously promoted that "Million Little Pieces" fraud James Frey on her show. She's also peddled that idiotic "The Secret" crap on her show as well as a laundry list of other pseudoscientific garbage. The nation just saw what happens when you elected an idiotic TV star to the WH. Let's not make the same mistake again.

This bears repeating. You could also add "privileged billionaire" to the list of adjectives. The nation just saw what happens when you elected an idiotic TV star to the WH. Let's not make the same mistake again.

No more celebrities running for president, please and thank you.
If Oprah wants to get into politics, she could run for (and I'm sure, win) a lower office. I would respect that.
But like a Facebook friend said (to fellow Dems): This isn't how we fix Trump; this is how we double down on the same crazy bullshit that brought us Trump.
If it's any indication, every single liberal FB friend I have is saying the same or similar.
CNN, not so much.

Yeah, I'd vote for Oprah over Trump, but I'd vote for literally anyone on this board over Trump.
