True, but the "open secret that people enabled for decades" part of it seems to apply.

I hate the NRA with a passion, so please ignore the source of this, but this was pretty funny:

Christ, what a stupid take.
I saw an article that the SEC is considering taking some sort of punitive action for the "abusive" (their words) actions Robinhood and others took against individual traders (i.e., selectively restricting purchases, etc.), but methinks this is likely just tough-talk sabre rattling and they'll likely do nothing at all. If anything does get done, I fully expect it to benefit the hedge fund elites while claiming to be protecting the little guy.

Remember just a year ago when Kamala Harris was such a garbage candidate whom nobody liked and was polling so low that she had to drop out of the Presidential race before the first primary even took place? And now, suddenly she's amazing and wonderful and "oMg, ShE's SoOo HiStOrIc!!!" So, I'm sure some of you heard how Kamala Harris plagiarized a story told by Martin Luther King, Jr. in order to beef up the fictional autobiography she tells people to get some of that sweet, sweet woke street cred, and how the MSM largely ignored the story: Now, the latest example of, "but we have to protect the new administration!!!" comes from the Washington Post, who had a profile of Harris posted for quite a while that mentioned her really shitty comments on the treatment of prisoners (among other things), where she laughed about them begging for food and water; a detail that mysteriously and quietly disappeared recently when the post ret-conned...er...I mean..."updated" the profile. Reason noticed this and reported on it and now the Post has suddenly decided to restore the old version. They're soooo impartial! Democracy won't die in darkness today, I guess: reason.com/2021/01/22/the-washington-post-memory-holed-kamala-harris-bad-joke-about-inmates-begging-for-food-and-water/

This is such a shitshow and truly pulls the curtain back on just how fucked we are and that the financial elites truly are the ones in power. Despite the fact that the stock market is rigged in such a way to allow this type of short trading bullshit to take place, nothing that the redditors did was illegal. The elites are just mad that somebody else beat them at their own game and they're doing everything they can to shut people's legal activity down and prevent this in the future. Can't have regular people prospering, can we? Losses on these short trades have topped $70 billion for these hedge fund fuckers (I have no sympathy for them): www.reuters.com/article/us-retail-trading-shortbets-idUSKBN29X1SWSo, of course they're fighting back now by leveraging their power to, in essence, shut down trading in a targeted way in order to stop the bleeding and recoup some of their losses. Even the WH seems to be on board with them (no surprises there). Google deleted over 100,000 negative reviews of the Robinhood app yesterday: www.theverge.com/2021/1/28/22255245/google-deleting-bad-robinhood-reviews-play-storeDude whose tweet I had in another post claiming that Citadel scooped up some stocks right before ordering Robinhood to halt customer purchases on them (probably to drive the price down so they could short them and stop the bleeding from their losses):

People have shit for memories and they'll forget about Robinhood as soon as the next shiny thing pops up. Just like they've already forgotten about Robinhood screwing countless users back in the market freefall of March. It's not that they simply screwed countless users, they actively engaged in market manipulation. **(there used to be a Tweet here claiming that Citadel purchased some of the available short stock back right before they told Robinhood to halt purchases and drive the price down, but the person who tweeted it got a cease & desist...which suggests he was telling the truth). They not only closed purchases (but only to smaller and individual investors), they forced sales from their individual customers (they'll likely claim they were margin calls) to free up / release shares while setting up the price to tank...seemingly for their hedge owners to try to buy back up and short again to minimize their already huge losses, because hedge funds were conveniently exempt from the purchase stoppages. How this type of shit isn't literally a crime is a damning indictment of how fucked up Wall Street is. It is funny, tho, watching all the rich elites coming together to try to make it sound like they're the real victims and that these unwashed mouthbreather peasants on Reddit were trying to ruin America. I saw a tweet that Robinhood and others shutting down purchases on individual accounts was due in part from pressure from the White House. I haven't seen any credible proof to back that up, but it wouldn't surprise me, and if it's true then people should go after Biden and his team of Wall Street cronies also.

Seems like it'd be more accurate if "leadership" and "American" were switched with each other in that title.

Just diggin' that hole deeper, ain't they?
In their frantic race to circle the wagons, the elites seem to be tripping and falling on their faces.

Haha, the President and CEO of Nasdaq, Adena Friedman, is also female but that still didn't prevent this "tragedy" (for the rich) from happening, so I'm not sure what the sex of people involved in this situation matters.

So...it only took a day into his Presidency before Biden and team started backpedalling on $2K stimulus checks. The story has suddenly changed to, "No no no, when we said "we guarantee $2K checks will go out immediately," we simply meant "$2K total if you add in the $600 you got nearly a year ago" and by "immediately" we simply mean "probably two months from now." If you recall, "$2K stimulus checks immediately" was the foundation of the entire recent GA run-off elections from just a few weeks ago. However, maybe he's just been too busy with signing mostly symbolic and toothless "executive orders" about the border wall and diversity training (based on the racist "Critical Race Theory") for small groups of federal employees, rather than focusing on the main promises of the election that would bring relief to the majority of Americans. To be clear, I voted for him and pretty much anything is better than Trump. But the fact that it does not surprise me at all that the new administration couldn't even go one day before going back on their biggest promises is a sad indictment of the status quo "business as usual" bullshit that comes from all politicians these days, no matter what party they belong to. Promise big, go back on your word, and hope everyone just gets over it and forgets by the next election: This reminds me of a story from about 20 years ago where Hooters unwisely decided to get all duplicitously cute with a "win a free Toyota" contest where they promised, or at least seriously misled, their own employees to believe that whoever won a company contest would get a free Toyota. However, the winner was shocked and infuriated to find out that it was really a "toy Yoda" instead. She quit her job there and then sued the Hooters franchise that had ripped her off for "breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation." She apparently won big. www.snopes.com/fact-check/hummer-bummer/I wonder if the American people have a similar class action case against Biden?

Indeed. Remember just 2 years ago when people like Mitch McConnell were getting harassed in restaurants. He was out with his wife and at least one of the assholes took McConnell's food and threw it on the ground. Real classy. www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/diner-harangues-mitch-mcconnell-over-planned-social-security-cuts_n_5bcbbc66e4b0d38b5878de61?ri18n=trueI think McConnell is basically an evil, miserable piece of shit but that kind of behavior is way out of line. However, I do recall many people on the far-left cheering such behavior because they felt McConnell "deserved it." From the story in Rob's OP, it doesn't seem like the lawyer came close to the near physical assault of McConnell, and McConnell also didn't really retaliate, yet Wheeler pepper sprayed the dude. I suppose only the GOP "deserves" this type of public harassment?
