I think Haggis meant what I said in my last post -- that Phillips was moving through the crowd until the kid stood in his path and did the face-off. That's not the same thing as Phillips just trying to pass someone on a crowded sidewalk, with no other context. Certainly there was other context. He was moving through the crowd for a reason. Shit had happened and was still happening. Hey Haggis, you really need to up the clarity of your posts, lest these crucial distinctions become lost on the hoi polloi.

Who is the bigger loser here? I think it's clear. Trump (at least for now). I'm just noting the divergence in terms of blame put on Trump vs the GOP in Congress. It doesn't really seem fair to me, given that the GOP in Congress had punted on this issue when they still had a majority. But it is what it is, I guess.

What would Philip of Macedon think?

Disagree. (1) Your take of the initial "hot take" is not an accurate characterization. I cannot recall anyone saying he was "just trying to get by" (as someone might in a crowded room, for example). No one reads the posts in this thread. From earlier:

The bolded part is what they had to change. Pardon me if I'm also dubious of his maudlin story of how he was spit on while in uniform "coming back to the US." Given this misrepresentation as well as his other risible delusions about what (didn't) happen at Lincoln Memorial last week, nothing about this opportunistic grifter or anything he says strikes me as credible anymore. Would be funny if we had a video of the spitting incident. Oh wait, here we are.

LOL. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADzobhJVtnw"If there’s a concrete wall in front of you, go through it, go over it, go around it, but get to the other side of that wall." — Donald Trump, 2004

Building a time-consuming wall--without much in the way of other complementary measures--is clearly the most logical response to a national emergency that must be addressed as soon as possible.
And maybe we were too quick to condemn Trump for not sending help to Puerto Rico. Responders have already begun swimming there and should arrive any month now.

I agree, there's probably going to be a lot of tension in DRC over this, for a long time. That said, I think they quite possibly dodged an even worse bullet simply by not having Kabila remain in power, which seemed to be a real possibility not too long ago.
Look at neighboring Burundi, for example, where their president was supposed to step down in 2015 but is still in power today. That decision led to a sectarian clash that created 200,000 refugees (and maybe even more, depending on source.) Surely the DRC is just as much of a tinderbox as Burundi, but obviously with a much larger population and way more factionalism.

www.nation.co.ke/news/africa/Tshisekedi-declared-winner-of-DRC-presidential-poll/1066-4928448-nowmhvz/index.htmlDunno if anyone else here has been following this, but this has been on my radar for quite some time now. Somewhat shockingly (IMO), one of the opposition candidates (Felix Tshisekedi) has now been declared the winner. Given the poor record of Kabila and his party, I see this as welcome news. Of course, at the same time, a less than smooth transition could easily lead to more problems in a country that's already suffered so much from internal conflict.

I have a better idea. Since lots of illegal immigrants arrive by plane, let's build a roof. "We're gonna build a roof.. And Jimmy Carter... Jimmy Carter is gonna build it." Vote Wolfe in 2020. BTW, you're not related to Claire, are you? Nope. No relation to the author of Fire and Fury either, although some of my friends did rib me about it.
