There are an awful lot of left and far-left pundits who see causality as a function of temporal distance: the closer two events are in time, the more likely it is that the first caused the second (assuming there's a readily apparent linkage). What are they going to do here? If the coverage from the major media outlets is any indication....ignore it.

The unvaccinated are only a threat to other unvaccinated, right? Not exactly the definition of "everyone".

Jay-Z in the music hall of fame for sure...but Rock and Roll? I don't get it. Same for the Go-Go's and Carole King, they weren't exactly rock.

Once upon a time, many many moons ago, I was a pretty good wrestler. Nationally ranked, junior Olympic team, all that good stuff. Being from and living in a relatively small town, I often get a call to come help out at local wrestling meets, score a table and on rare occasion, officiate. Tonight was one such night.
These poor kids tonight had to wrestle while wearing masks. Possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

What would be helpful is some clarity on what the end goal of all this is. When things first started up in the US a little over a year ago, it was all about "two weeks to flatten the curve", a concept meant to keep case counts low enough that our hospitals would not be overrun, a scenario currently playing out in India. That is a definable goal. But somehow that's evolved into "we can never have another case of COVID ever!"
The simple fact is COVID isn't smallpox or polio. It isn't something that a vaccine is going to eradicate. This thing is going to be around forever. The goal of vaccination is to regulate it to flu-like status. People will get it every year, people will die from it every year, but hopefully the number is low enough that there isn't a drain on our health care systems. I think we are pretty much there in the US.
Of course the latest scare is all about the variants and mutations that "possibly evade the immune response!" which is mostly media hype and fear mongering. All viruses mutate. Of course the uncontrolled spread in some parts of the world do increase the chances of a monster mutation occurring, but even that chance is not very high. My biochemist father-in-law described it as such: "I'm wearing different clothes than I was yesterday, so I appear different. But underneath my clothes, I'm the same person. The same bullet that would have killed my yesterday will still kill me today. That is what the majority of COVID mutations are like: changing clothes." He did say that he could put on body armor one day and survive a bullet, but he would still be vulnerable in other places.
Wearing masks after being fully vaccinated is not rooted in any science at all. Its about feelings. This is encapsulated perfectly by the press briefing in which Ted Cruz refused to wear a mask. The exchange with the reporter went like this:
I have full faith in my vaccination. I am not a threat to others, whether they are vaccinated or not, and they are not a threat to me, whether they are vaccinated or not.

I think if the vaccine works, masks are unnecessary for those that are fully vaccinated. Otherwise, what is the point?

I've wondered, given the above is fact, why so many Democrats act like they have a mandate and broad support.
I think they will be in for quite a rude awakening in about 18 months.....

And people--for the most part--aren't saying she "deserved to die." Absolutely. I'll admit I don't have a lot of sympathy for the young lady. But, being in foster care, it seems she had a difficult life and her death IS tragic. Was her death avoidable? Perhaps if real life had a pause button and the situation could be fully analyzed, understood, and the absolute best course of action plotted out. But in the heat of the moment, with the officer being informed of a 911 call that a person was attempting to stab other people, arriving and witnessing such an attack, I have difficulty finding fault in the officer's decision to employ deadly force. Simply put, if someone were attacking my family with a knife, I wouldn't care too much if the cops showed up and shot the person. "Deserved to die" is just a trap phrase used in disingenuous arguments. Its a complete strawman.

When I read the headline of the article, I too was thinking we are leading the race toward mediocrity. But there was snippets in the article that made me pause and consider this might not be a bad idea. Such as:
and:
and:
My daughter is an absolute rock star student. She's finishing her sophomore year in high school this year, is taking senior level courses in science and mathematics and, with summer courses, will complete an associates degree from the local NMSU branch. I agree with the above statement that advanced courses are often focused on "covering content" rather than depth of understanding and if these changes are an attempt to remedy that I'm all for it.
That being said, the term "equality" is coming up far too often for me to be comfortable. It strikes me as a veiled attempt to even out the academic accomplishments across social and cultural lines by way of lowering the performance of the over-performing rather than improving the performance of the under-performing.

that the cops should have shot her in the leg or hand to stop her.. People watch far too much Hollywood. If there was ever a clear cut case for the use of deadly force, this is pretty much it. Yeah, obviously based on the fact she was actively trying to attack people with a knife.

Maxine Waters opening her stupid mouth again isn't helping things (god, she's about a decade past needing to retire). I think he'll be found guilty, as he should be. This was egregious and indefensible. But Waters's dumbass has gift wrapped an immediate appeal for Chauvin. She is a walking, talking advertisement for both mandatory retirement AND term limits.

I can't fathom how someone can hold a gun and think it's a taser, but that's me. I'm with you 100%. If it was a newbie cop, I could chalk it up to the notoriously poor training going on in the Academy's these days. But this was a veteran. The only thing I can think of is that she'd been a desk jockey for several years and was recently pressed back into street work due to low numbers of officers because "DEFUND THE POLICE!" and was extremely rusty, for lack of a better term. But that's 100% conjecture on my part.
