Daughter # 2 lives in Hawaii with her husband and two of her kids. She called me this afternoon (morning her time) to tell me what was happening and to say goodbye if things went south. Yes, within a half hour she got the all clear, but the suggestion that the original message simply caused "concern on social media" doesn't begin to touch on how big of a fuck up this was. If Tangerine dude had been at his desk--you know, the one with the button bigger than Little Rocket Man's--that stupid idiot might have pushed it. Please, someone, keep him golfing.

Take comfort in the fact that I'm not DT could figure out to pull up the plastic cover to prevent someone from accidentally pressing it.

I don't understand how this kind of system could be set up so poorly, wherein such a notification could be sent simply through pushing the wrong button, with no confirmation and no means to immediately send a follow-up message. Pretty poor design and planning, I think. Also, the phone alerts seemed to get routed through FEMA first, before getting sent out to actual phones in a given area. But there's no safeguards here, either?
