Interesting piece at the BBC: Adolescence now lasts from 10 to 24What's discussed isn't limited to perceptions, alone. For instance: I did not know that. But at the same time: The numbers are from England, but I bet they're basically the same here, as well. Anyway, I think there's some more to all of this--that I can't quite put my finger on--to explain why puberty is coming quicker physically, even as adolescence is extended socially.

That article is a bit misleading with their weasel-wordesque use of the vague phrase "scientists say." That makes it seem like there's some sort of consensus. There's not. No actual scientific body has declared that adolescence lasts past 19. It's just the 4 people who published that opinion piece. And, I feel I should reiterate that it is their "opinion," not any kind of authoritative dictum. Granted, given the maturity level of a lot of kids in their early 20s that I've encountered over the past few years, I'm not necessarily against those authors' suggestion (see: Katie Way)

I still don't have my wisdom teeth, and quite possibly never will (family trait -- my dad never got his).
I am still not married, and I rather doubt I will marry.
Does that mean, according to these people, I will remain an adolescent until I die?
