I've been rewatching The Mentalist, of late. I really enjoy the characters, the acting, even the Columbo-esque cases. But one of the problems with the series is that it is built around a mastermind serial killer--Red John--who has "agents" and disciples all over the place, who infiltrate law enforcement agencies with apparent ease. So there has to be some suspension of disbelief for this aspect of the show (to put it mildly).
A newer series--The Following--pretty much tripled down on this, with a cult that not only did just as Red John's people did, but also managed to have experts in pretty much every field imaginable.
Then there was 24, wherein the CTU--the Counter Terrorism Unit--apparently was the AirBnB for terrorist orgs: one group would move in, eventuality get caught, then immediately be replaced by another group.
These were still serious shows--dramas--not comedies of any sort (the comedy series Psyche is actually more believable then the above three, if viewed through this prism). Yet, they were fundamentally based on ridiculous premises.
Or were they...

Allison Mack has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a sex cult.
On Friday, both the Smallville actress and Keith Raniere were charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor conspiracy, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York confirmed to Yahoo Entertainment. Raniere, the founder of the self-help group NXIVM and the alleged cult leader, was arrested last month.
Within NXIVM, there was reportedly a secret “sorority” called DOS, also known as “Lord/Master of the Obedient Female Companions.” Mack, 35, was allegedly a DOS Master who recruited and directed slaves to have sex with Raniere, also known as “Vanguard.”
