9 dead in Dayton, 20 dead in El Paso, many more injured in both instances.
Of the nine killed by the Dayton Shooter--Connor Betts--one was his younger sister. And Betts apparently had "kill" and "rape" lists when he was in high school:
Betts also professed support for Elizabeth Warren and claimed to be a socialist.
In contrast to this, the 20 killed by the El Paso shooter--Patrick Crusius--seemed to have all been strangers to him, given that he lived hundreds of miles away. And he apparently left a "manifesto" on 8chan (which I guess is named "8chan" because it's twice as bad as 4chan):
Crusius liked Trump and really wanted a border wall.
There's a stark divergence here, stark enough that I'm seeing my social media feeds full of people on the left highlighting Crucius' "right wing" motivations and people on the right highlighting Betts' "left wing" motivations.
Motivations mean dick of course when we're talking about scores of dead innocents.
Still, wondering how these two douchebags with divergent points of view managed to come to such similar conclusions is a legitimate concern, I think.

However, high-school classmates of the gunman told the Associated Press that he had a history of violent ideation and was suspended in 2012 for compiling a “hit list” of those he wanted to kill and a “rape list” of females he wanted to sexually assault.
Two former classmates at Bellbrook High School, a man and a woman who the AP granted anonymity out of their fear of harassment, said Betts was twice suspended for the threats. The woman said she had been contacted by the police at the time, as her name was on the “rape list.”

Titled "The Inconvenient Truth," the unsigned writings cited support for the Christchurch, New Zealand shooter who targeted Muslims at two mosques in March, a massacre that left 51 dead.
Police said the document cited an "Hispanic invasion" of Texas and the author stated he was against "race mixing" that he believes leads to "identity problems."
The essay also lists cultural and economic justifications for the author's views, assailing politicians from both parties and corporations and predicting automation will lead to widespread job displacement and a growing population competing for a diminishing pool of resources.
