So, there's this twitter post...it's a vid of a woman in the Ramble (in Central Park) with her dog off its leash. The gentleman filming her is apparently a birder who is fed up with people letting their dogs run free (they're not allowed to be off-leash in this area) because it endangers other wildlife and annoys people. Now, I have to say that I wish there was a better lead-up to the video, because it starts with the woman over her dog, holding on to it, not of the dog galloping around loose or anything like that. But anyway, she loses her shit at the guy filming her--which I think is understandable to a degree--but eventually calls 911 and tells the police that an African American man it threatening her life, and she does it in a faux-terrified voice. The post--as you can see--opens up with labeling here a "Karen" (which I think is a serious mistake). People chime in, with one person even noting that they recognized this woman because she did this all the time. Here's the post:
Now, it went viral pretty quickly. It went up at 1 pm yesterday and I had seen it by 2 pm, thanks to retweets.
And somewhere along the line, the internet "sleuths" took over. They identified her, her dog, her employer, and so on. See this thread, for example:
Her employer--Franklin Templeton--has a pinned tweet (their site might have crashed yesterday, because of people trying to contact them):
Read the responses to it.
She has apologized, probably because she realize her life was going quickly down the toilet: www.cnn.com/2020/05/26/us/central-park-video-dog-video-african-american-trnd/index.html
Not much of an apology, in my view. She clearly did mean to harm him, as she meant to get him in trouble with the police at the very least.
The guy who she threatened said this:
In my view, that proves him to be just a human being. His issue was always people like her breaking a relatively simple rule in a place he enjoyed. That's pretty damn good.
All that said...is this all a net positive? She acted like a real stupid ass, even a stupid racist ass, but is she the worse person ever? Did she deserve hundreds of thousand of people coming down on her and her life like several thousand tons of bricks? See the wrestling thread, consider Hana Kimura and her suicide.
ETA: Oh, and #FireAmyCooper is trending.

Amy Cooper told CNN she wanted to "publicly apologize to everyone."
"I'm not a racist. I did not mean to harm that man in any way," she said, adding that she also didn't mean any harm to the African American community.

Asked if he'd accept her apology, Christian Cooper told CNN he would "if it's genuine and if she plans on keeping her dog on a leash in the Ramble going forward, then we have no issues with each other."
