And with regard to the subsequent protests and shootings, check this out:
The "Visual Investigations" team at the NYT has really put a lot of shit together. Watching all of that, I'm not sure what to think about Rittenhouse, other than he had no reason to be there with a gun. And the people he shot/shot at him had no reason to be there, either. But since they all decided to be there...

The Rittenhouse shooting is mind-boggling, too (at least IMO). For example... www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-kenosha-shooting-kyle-rittenhouse-20200826-xdww3peuj5ddbimcj4vikx63y4-story.htmlSrsly? People inform you that a shooting just happened and a guy walks right past you carrying a rifle, and you just stand there and do nothing? The guy was actually able to leave the state of Wisconsin before finally being arrested. That's just an astounding level of negligence, especially when you consider that he could've easily continued shooting people after that (which thankfully didn't happen, apparently).

www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYjG4uequWQA surprisingly fair report on the Rittenhouse shootings. Based on those videos in the report, its going to be tough to convict, in my opinion.

Here's the statement from Rittenhouse's attorney: spectrumnews1.com/wi/madison/news/2020/08/29/teen-s-attorneys-claim-self-defense-in-kenosha-shootingsSelf-serving and one-sided? Sure. But pretty consistent with all of the videos that I've seen. He might get charged with some lesser crimes--I don't know if he needed a permit or not--but I can't see how any sort of murder or even manslaughter charge is going to be possible. My own take: I think Rittenhouse is probably a bit of a gun-crazy teenager who saw an opportunity to carry a gun while doing something that he could convince himself was a Good Thing (protecting businesses from looters). But I don't think it goes much farther than that. Because it seems like Rittenhouse was actually helping injured people and certainly wasn't running around shooting people willy-nilly. He strikes me as a kid who ended up in a terrifying situation. Unfortunately for his terrorizers, he was armed with a deadly weapon. Because the people accosting and pursuing Rittenhouse are the cause of these tragic events. Would it have been better if Rittenhouse didn't go to Kenosha with a gun and violate curfew. Absolutely. But it would have also been better if these protesters (at least one of whom was armed with a gun as well, because you know, "peaceful") weren't running around destroying shit and terrorizing people.

This was the prosecutor when Grosskreutz answered that question: So far all the prosecution witnesses have done a bang up job of proving the defense self-defense claim. I wouldn't be surprised to see the defense move for and be granted a directed verdict on the murder charges.

Ha, did anyone listen to the prosecutor's opening statement? If you can find a vid of it, it's an interesting listen. Very odd, as he seems to partly make the defense's case for them.
Not exactly the direction I'd think a good prosecutor would go in at the start of a trial.

The prosecution has rested.
As far as I can tell, the prosecution has managed to:
1, have their primary witness (Grosskreutz) admit Rittenhouse did not fire on him until he (the witness) pointed his gun at and advanced on Rittenhouse.
2, have several witness state Rosenbaum (the first person shot) was acting erratically and belligerently and also told Rittenhouse that if Rosenbaum found Rittenhouse alone, he would "fucking kill him".
3, have the prosecution's forensic pathologist testify the only way Rosenbaum ended up with a shot in his back was if Rosenbaum were lunging at Rittenhouse at the time he was shot. Testified that a hand wound on Rosenbaum was also consistent with Rosenbaum reaching for the weapon.
4, had their primary witness (Grosskreutz) admit to lying several times in his original statement to police
5, introduced video and witness testimony that confirmed Rittenhouse was fleeing the area and did not confront Huber (one of the deaths) until Rittenhouse tripped, Huber hit Rittenhouse with his skateboard, and then tried to grab Rittenhouse's weapon.
6, introduced video that showed Rittenhouse lower his weapon when Grosskreutz raised his hands in surrender and only raised it to fire when Grosskreutz later pointed his pistol at and advanced on Rittenhouse (corroborated as an accurate chain of events by....Grosskreutz himself).
It is almost as if the prosecution has tried to throw the case.
I think Rittenhouse is found guilty of the illegal weapons charge (obviously) and possibly of the reckless endangerment charge. I can't see any possible way any of the murder charges are upheld.
