As some of you may know, I'm a big football (soccer) fan. I watch the European leagues and the international stuff, men and women, along with some of the women's domestic matches (by and large, MLS is a shit product, imo). I am, in fact, something of a fanboy when it comes to the USWNT (US Women's National Team). Yesterday afternoon, the team played a friendly against Mexico in what was a tune-up for the Olympics. Of course, both teams stood on the field while the national anthems of their countries were played. The US national anthem was played by a 98 year old WWII vet on the harmonica. Nice, right? Here's a clip from ESPN:

Yeah, that's NOT what is happening at all. If one watches the clip (I was watching it live on TV, btw), is fairly easy to discern why some of the women turned to the right (and put their hands on their hearts, as well): so they could see the fucking flag flying over the stadium. People in the stands did this as well. The women who faced forward were watching the guy who was playing the harmonica. In short, the whole team was respectful, some just felt moved and wanted to see the actual flag (the women facing forward could still see the flag on the jumbotron).
The above faulty take EXPLODED on twitter last night. I honestly couldn't believe it. People put up the ESPN clip and exclaimed how awful these women were. And oddly enough, most people raging couldn't even tell you which women were supposedly being disrespectful.

Many similar tweets have now been deleted, including ones from verified accounts like Laura Ingraham. Some others are still up, though. Here's one douchebag who just won't take the L:
Carli Lloyd responds to the Post Millenial posting the same bullshit:
And read the responses. People can't let it go. Why?
I would argue that it is because many, many people are becoming less human, are more like NPCs then they are like thinking creatures. I'm seriously starting to accept simulation theory...
