As some may know--most probably don't--I'm a Gooner. That means I'm a supporter of Arsenal F.C. in the English Premier League.
On New Year's Day, Arsenal played Crystal Palace at the Emirates and won 2-0. The first goal was scored by Olivier Giroud and is already being heralded as the potential goal of the year in the Premier League. Watch it:
That technique is a scorpion kick and is one of the rarest used to score a goal these days (everybody and their brother does bicycle kicks). To process how wonderful it was, consider that the goal-scorer--Giroud--spent the remainder of the match with an ear to ear grin. In post-match interviews, he freely admitted it involved a lot of luck, to his credit.
Anyway, I wanted to share...

It was an amazing goal, but my own opinion (disclaimer: I'm a West Ham fan, who has a son playing for Liverpool's academy) is that when so much of a goal comes from luck, it's not goal of the season material.
Now, my dad, from his lofty perch on high, was also a Gooner and would no doubt disagree with me...

ETA: On the luck aspect, he was lucky that it worked, but he most certainly was trying to score. Anyone who scores with a scorpion kick is going to be lucky to some extent, because there's no way to put sufficient pace on the ball to power it home.

You're absolutely right, of course, huge credit for even trying to score from there. And I appreciate his humility, too, nice to see.

My resolutions are to continue my weight loss, (Down 87 lbs from about a 1 1/2 years ago)and to not be as serious.
Anyone want to lay odds on which one I have a better chance of?

I am confident you can accomplish both, Vince524. (Congrats, btw -- that's an impressive weight loss!) By the way, I love your current avatar.
