Too early? I don't think so.
It seems to me that the 2020 Election is going to be something of a free-for-all on the Dem side. Given that everyone is expecting Trump to be a disaster to one degree or another, the door is wide open for a fairly easy Dem victory in 2020. Thus, there is a huge opportunity for candidates who lack national exposure and/or who are often seen as on the fringes to make a push in the primaries. Because if Trump is even half as bad as most think, whomever wins the Dem primary wins the 2020 Election, right?*
So, I anticipate people to begin making their case far earlier than has been the case in the past (such as Cory Booker, who used the Sessions hearings to get some free press for himself).
I'm assuming Warren will be there, and Sanders as well. But how about some dark horses? Anyone want to offer up a long shot now?
I'll throw one out there: Kamals Harris, the new Senator from California. The fact that she's from California--which is overflowing with people who will be able to say "see, we told you so" with regard to Trump--might give her some added oomph, especially when it comes to fundraising.

I can't believe people are seriously floating Hillary for another run. Stick a fork in her, she's done.
I do think it's too early, though. Everyone just taking it for a given that Trump will be a disaster and the Dems will win easily? The same way they took it for a given that he'd be a joke candidate and Hillary would walk all over him?
If there is one thing this election has done, it's been to make me much more wary of making predictions or thinking that conventional wisdom or even my own intuition is reliable.

I wouldn't be surprised if after 4 years Trump is bored and decides not to run again. In which case, it'll be an open field like this time.
I do think Booker is getting ready for a run, as are others.
From the GOP side, if Trump does well enough, nobody of interest will run, but if he tanks, or if he says he's not running again, I'd wager on Nikki Haley, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Marco Rubio, and Tim Scott.
Dems, I'd guess Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Kristin Gillibrand & Andrew Cuomo
In addition, we can possibly get a few non politicians to run, especially now that Trump won.

I wouldn't be surprised if after 4 years Trump is bored and decides not to run again. In which case, it'll be an open field like this time. ... I've been wondering since the election if Trump has any interest in governing, beyond being the Winner. He's shown a lack of policy specifics, and he has little to no interest in intelligence briefings. He appears preoccupied with ratings and Twitter wars and seems to prize the spotlight and applause. Given, too, his apparent lack of concern for consequences for anyone but himself (even his wives are expendable, it would seem), I've imagined that he'd rather go play President and let the staff do the actual governing. [Whether that's actually preferable, I'm not sure.] I can imagine him wandering away when it all gets too tedious, and it gets too unpleasant to front a media and public that don't all play along with the script. Could he even walk away before the end of term, and go back (exclusively) to business?

I think his cabinet picks are indicative, here: he doesn't really want to do the work. Really, I don't think he even wants the power. He just wants the recognition, the ability to say "See, I told you I would win; I always win at everything."

Please, nobody tell him he can't win reelection.

I think the potentially more important election will be the 2018 midterms. All 435 House seats will be up as will 33 Senate seats. There will also be over a dozen governorships voted on that day, too.
If the Dems want to have any chance at all of gaining back any kind clout, they need to pour all of their time, effort, and money into the midterms, starting now.
