I remember the Bush twins got such flack when they were being rowdy party girls in college. It wasn't actually the picture we wanted to see of the President's kids, but even as no fan of Bush at the time, I thought the liberals who were hooting and chortling with glee were being hypocrites. How many of them had done the same, or had daughters who did? And one picture at a bad moment is quite an unfair way to judge someone. The Bush daughters have certainly grown up enormously privileged, so I can't feel sorry for them. But it's nice that they are showing such class. And my god, is it strange that now even Democrats are starting to regard GWB at least somewhat sympathetically, compared to what they've got...

I was an extremely good student, have never so much as tried drugs, and was neither promiscuous, a trouble-maker, nor a drunkard -- but I went to my share of frat parties, had a bit too much to drink now and then, and there are plenty of pictures of me from college like that (some taken when I was perfectly sober). I absolutely thought the Bush girls were unreasonably bashed on the so-called "party girl" front. They were just normal girls.
But that, alas, is what people do to first children. Lord knows Chelsea and the Obama girls have had their share of ugliness directed at them, too. I freaking hate it -- leave the damn kids alone.
It is very nice to see Jenna and Barbara demonstrating such class today. And lovely to see a completely non-partisan gesture of kindness, sympathy, and friendship.
And yes, it is interesting to see even Democrats looking back almost wistfully at GWB as they contemplate Trump.

Quite frankly, I hated what they did to Amy and Chelsea and Jenna and Barbara and Malia and Sasha and I'm old enough to remember how pissed off Truman got when people dissed Margaret. Plus I really don't want to see Barron dissed either. On the other hand the other kids are adults, so go for it.
