You know, I totally get the people who didn't particularly like any of their options. I sympathize with third party voters (I've been one, though I wasn't this year). But not voting?
Write someone in. Push like hell to get someone better on the ballot next time. Do something more productive than kneeling during the national anthem. While I'll fight for this dude's right to protest (though I'm with RBG that I don't think much of Kaepernick's particular form of protest), I don't have much sympathy at all for what seems to be his overall attitude: "The system sucks. But I'm not going to do a damn thing to improve it or even discuss how we might take steps to improve it. I'm just going to say it sucks."
Also, I've heard he's a rotten quarterback.

Let's not forget that there are things on ballots besides the Presidency, from other political offices to ballot initiatives.

I actually wrote my own name in for president.
I'm very disappointed in my election results.

absolutely.
I fall into the "never miss a vote" category. I've dragged myself to the polls with the flu (I tried not to breath on people). I've put in the time to vote when I was at trial and working until 3 in the morning. I've obtained absentee ballots when I had to be out of town. I vote in every single little local election. I take political flyers and read them; I look at all the candidates, not just the main parties.
I've no damn patience at all for people who just can't be bothered to vote.
Yes, here is one of the areas where I'm self-righteous as hell. I won't tell someone who to vote for -- but I'll damn sure tell them they should vote.

Also, regarding voter turnout (no, I didn't purposely split this into 2 posts so I could be Buff sooner) - apparently my husband signed a MoveOn.org petition with 2 million of his closest friends, to change the results of the election. I informed him it would have been better to have more people vote ON THE DAY OF THE ACTUAL ELECTION.

You know, I'll defend to the death Kaepernick's right to not stand for the National Anthem...but if you're not even going to bother to take part in selecting the new leaders of your country, then your little one-man protest loses all meaning.

I said all along, he has the right to protest, but who really cares what some overpaid QB says anyway.

Aberration or beginning of a trend?

Aberration or beginning of a trend? I think among those who voted, disgust at both mainstream candidates was at an all-time high, so I am not surprised that third parties did better. But they still only got a tiny sliver of votes. Also, y'all need to work on better memes than a random Picard photo.

Yeah, I didn't make that, just picked it up to illustrate the point.

If there's still no better choices next time, then you may see another increase.
And what's wrong with Picard? He always makes sense!
