I did not watch, though I did read his inauguration speech and some news coverage.
It was not a form of protest on my part (no one gives a damn whether I watch), but because I honestly can't stand hearing him speak. I'm hyper-sensitive to voices that annoy me, and taking aside the substance of his words, his voice and delivery grate on me. The debates were all I could handle -- I'll be reading his future speeches unless there's a damn good reason I need to listen.

Just not interested in the pomp and circumstance.

No, but my replacement painter asked if she could use my TV to watch it. I said....
Guess what I said?
I feel the exact same way as Cass about his voice. I thought about watching it, but I was at work and ultimately just didn't feel like it.

I watched some of the ball. Meh.
I'll say this, though: aside from Trump, that is one uber-attractive family. Holy moley. Chris Mathews is going to be wetting himself non-stop for the next four years.

They all look plastic to me, including Trump. But so do most reality TV stars.

By the way -- anyone have thoughts on what Trump meant about ending the "American carnage"? Like, is he pledging not to start wars? That would be nice, but I don't think that's what he means.
ETA:
I cannot BEAR Chris Matthews.

I'd say he means an Executive order outlawing Monster Truck rallies. You'd think that would piss off most of his voter bloc / fan base but he's wanting to repeal Obamacare, and many of them are on it, but that doesn't stop them from loving him either.

I didn't watch but I read the (annotated) transcript at two places, WaPo and NPR. (interesting how their analysis differed, btw)
Red meat for his fans. A poke in the eye for the establishment. Claims contrary to facts. Promises that cannot possibly be kept. Economic illiteracy on display. Populism and Nationalism oozing over it all like hot sauce on a sundae. Promises of "protection" that boil down to economic isolationism. Invoking the claim that the deities are on our side. "American carnage?" "the very sad depletion of our military?" Srsly?
Typical political bullshit.

ETA: I cannot BEAR Chris Matthews. Sorry to tell you, but "American Carnage" is a reference to DOMESTIC policy. Bolding mine. It looks like the "War on the Inner Cities" is about to get an infusion of new warriors, tasked with ending crime and gangs, and ramping back up the drug war.

There is an argument to be made for the sad depletion of our military. It is not 'political bullshit' at all. We have ourselves to protect, as well as global interests and allies to think about. Today's complex global world demands a readiness for the U.S. to be able to respond or have a presence in multiple places at once. We have Islamist terrorism, Russia, China, North Korea to think about, and those are just the biggies. In terms of that ability, we are currently "depleted" in all branches of the military. The Budget Control Act of 2011 is the main reason for the depletion. Broken down into simple numbers: www.heritage.org/research/commentary/2015/10/the-declining-state-of-the-us-militaryHere's an NPR article for "balance". Also, I did watch part of the inauguration with my 14 yo daughter who was home from school not feeling well. I think it's a wonderful and patriotic celebration and makes me thankful to live in a country where our system of government allows free elections and a peaceful transition of power. It's quite remarkable, and I think too many of us lose sight of that. I want my daughter to have an appreciation for that.
