Yup.
I'm a liberal, or pretty liberal, or at least what used to identify as liberal. I am also pro-nationhood and even somewhat patriotic.
Nowadays, being patriotic, or even believing that the United States is entitled to prioritize the interests of US citizens above those of non-US citizens, is a gauche sentiment on the left. You're actually supposed to be kind of ashamed of the US, if not actively wishing for it to break apart or maybe be merged into the EU.
Defending our borders? Not letting in everyone in the world who wants to come here? My god, what kind of racist exclusionary nonsense is that?
I think "The travel ban would not have stopped any of the terrorist attacks that have actually happened" kind of misses the point. Trump's end goal is less immigration from the Middle East, period, which means fewer future generations of Muslim immigrants. Whether that's a good thing or not is, well, a contentious proposition to say the least, but it doesn't really matter that it wouldn't have kept out a handful of specific individuals. (More bothersome is that it wouldn't have kept out the 9/11 hijackers, because of our best buddies Saudi Arabia not being on the list...)

Would it have kept out any of our terror attackers to date?
The 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, which, hmm, for some reason isn't included on the list. The rest, as far as I can recall, were committed by home-grown attackers who were radicalized by the internet and/or trips overseas. In my opinion (and in John McCain's, among other people) the ban actually provides additional ammunition for ISIS and other radical groups to use for recruitment.
I doubt the ban will keep out a single terrorist. We already screen the hell out of refugees and immigrants, particularly those from the middle east. I think we're in much bigger danger from disaffected people who already live here.

Exactly what Cass said. These beliefs are the height of ignorance, and they hurt real people. But it makes some "feel better" to just ban the Muslims. One bad skittle and you're dead, don'tcha know. SMDH.
