So, the Pats came roaring back from a 25 point deficit to win in overtime. Included in that comeback were two successful 2 point conversions. Brady threw for over 400 yards and all kinds of Superbowl records were set in the process: www.si.com/nfl/2017/02/06/super-bowl-li-records-patriots-falcons
I was actively rooting against the Pats, as were both of my kids and pretty much everyone else I know around these parts. I was giddy when the Falcons went up 28-3. I didn't just want the Pats to lose, I wanted them to be embarrassed. Ah Fate, you fickle bitch...
And I sat there in stunned horror as the impossible happened, as Brady led the Pats back (granted, with some help from the Falcons). And I knew the moment that the Pats won the coin toss in OT that the game was over. Brady was not going to be denied a TD on that first OT drive (the only way to end the game with just one possession).
Personally, I think Peyton Manning--as QBs go--always had the best combo of football knowledge and ability, maybe more of the first than of the second, but the best overall. Sure Montana is right there. Marino, Elway, Favre, Kelly and others were incredible talents to be sure. So there's always going to be room for debate...
Isn't there? Because if the Superbowl is the ultimate yardstick, the debate--as of now--is kinda over. Brady, after all, is 39 years old. His first Superbowl was 16 years ago. He now holds most of the QB-specific records for Superbowls, single games and career. He's been there 7 times. That's better than once every three years. It's mind-boggling.
Still, there's always room for debate...
