CHiPSand BaywatchI know making awful movie versions of classic (and also usually awful, as well) TV shows is a serious "thing," but these two? And I also know that decent movies are still being turned out by Hollywood, though it seems to me that the only real source of value is in comic book-inspired universes. Because if you ask me, right now all of the interesting and truly creative stuff is taking place on subscription channels (like HBO) and on Netflix and Amazon. What do you suppose the future of the movie industry holds? I'm thinking it's all going to collapse pretty soon.

In publishing, the mid-list has been gutted (and authors who once could make a living as steady mid-listers no longer can) because publishers demand bestsellers. If it doesn't hit the NYT bestseller list, forget about getting another contract. The few exceptions are small independent presses.
Same thing has been happening for a long time with movies. Blockbuster or GTFO, with the exception of small studios or well-funded passion projects by big names.

I used to love CHiPs when I was growing up. I could see myself watching a comedy-movie version of it, if it were free, even though this parody-remake-of-a-serious-classic-show trend has more than worn out its welcome.
But not with Dax Shepard. I can't stand that guy and him being in it is more of a turn off than the fact that it's a CHiPs movie.
