The look on the minister's face when Trump finally lets go of his hand is priceless. And then what Trump said, something about "strong hands"? Wut.
These sort of things almost make me feel sorry for Trump. It's so awkward. (Maybe I'm projecting since I tend toward awkwardness. I suppose it's equally likely Trump thinks he did very well there.)

Having watched several videos of Trump shaking various peoples' hands, I think it's a deliberate and conscious control thing. He yanks the hands toward him (almost pulled Gorsuch off his feet, drew Romney toward him like a tractor beam), holds it too long, and in this case, I think he squeezed. Either that, or "strong hands" is in reference to the minister trying to get his hand back. Either way...weird. What I think he might not realize is that just about anyone on the receiving end or watching won't be thinking "wow, he's in control here", but rather, "christ, what's wrong with this guy?!" Yes, the minister's expression is totally priceless. Anyway, I think it's more than just awkwardness. Gerald Ford and George W could at times be awkward (often cutely so -- I find awkward kind of adorable sometimes) Gerald Ford being adorably awkward: George W being adorably awkward: www.npr.org/2017/01/20/510850745/-meme-of-the-week-george-w-bush-battles-poncho-at-inauguration-and-losesBut those handshakes...yeah. Not adorable. Mesmerizing, memorable...but not adorable.

This is definitely possible. And the thing is, surely someone would have mentioned something to that effect to him in the last few decades... so, either purposeful, or a terrible case of denial. Side note, I very much like the Japanese minister. Very gracious. Bless his heart.

I like him, too. Body language expert discusses the handshake: The second snippet is interesting. As mentioned above, I saw a clip of Trump pulling Romney in like a tractor beam. Romney let Trump pull him right into his space -- so smooth, it looked almost as though he was on wheels. See the gif at the bottom of this article: nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2012/02/romney-trump-handshake.htmlHere he is with Pence. I posted a clip of the Gorsuch handshake in the Gorsuch thread. Gorsuch fought him -- it made Trump's yanking really obvious. (Let's hope that would also be his reaction if Trump tried to dominate him in his role as Supreme Court Justice.)
