I can't stand Trump, hate that he's President, and view him and his entire administration as a shameful pox on the country. However, some of his ardent detractors are reeeeeally reaching sometimes when it comes to some of their "insights" and analyses. Take this article from far-left-leaning Raw Story from today: I dunno. I've watched it about 5 times now and I just don't see it. What I see, is that at the exact moment that he touches her arm, she quickly looks down at the speech she's holding, then quickly looks up at the crowd, then quickly back down to the same speech again to start reading from it. She continues to periodically look down in the exact same place several times as she reads the prayer. But, maybe I'm missing something. You be the judge. I don't see it either.
I must say, they don't seem to have very good body language together as a couple, and I find their relationship weird (e.g., her staying in New York. I'd pack up junior and move to the White House without a second thought.)
But that said, I don't think she needs anyone to "rescue" her. I think she likely has what she wants, and so does he. It's not what the Obama's have (a loving couple if ever I saw one) or what I'd want, but we don't all want the same things.
I admit, I find it so hard to believe anyone could be in love with The Donald I too am guilty of reading into their body language. But even I saw nothing in that clip.

Yeah. The other thing is when you see Trump "complimenting" his wife, it's not really about her. It's about him. How he picked such a great wife, with such great attributes. His "bragging" about her is actually about him, being such a great wife-picker. There's no love, no adoration, no appreciation, for anyone other than himself. (It's really fucking disgusting, and there's no question in my mind, and I'm not "seeing things that aren't there," in my not at all humble opinion.) Maybe in the OP clip it's not clear, but it's clear in many other instances. He's a narcissist. She's married to him. She's been dealing with that for a long, long time. ETA: I wouldn't call it "hilarious" either. |

Yeah, they don't look very loving, but she's no victim. She chose to get into it, knowing his marital and romantic history. His character was tabloid fodder, and he certainly doesn't try to hide it -- quite the reverse. She married him a long time ago. That she married him is irrelevant, imo. The money is also irrelevant, unless the pre-nup would leave her destitute, or she's such a greedy bitch that being exceedingly well-off isn't good enough for her. Maybe?
Other than that... why wouldn't she have left, if he's as miserable of person to live with as one (me, you, etc.) might speculate?
(A) He's not. He's a wonderful husband.
(B) He won't let her, via manipulation, mind-fucks, whatever else.
(C) She enjoys the fucked-up-ness of it all.
To be clear, any of the above is plausible. People are weird.

I don't think the expressions on her face at various times are evidence of her shrugging it off. She's feeling some shit. If she's staying for Barron's sake... why? How would Barron suffer if she left? Is it the mommy-and-daddy-should-stay-together thing? Wut. But now that you mention, maybe it's perceived custody issues, which are awful enough without having a lawyered-up Donald as the father. Add that to option (B).  |

And on the expression thing -- Melania may suffer from resting bitch face.
Really, we can't tell from here. The one thing I think is safe to say is that, in public, at least, they do not exhibit loving body language.
ETA:
I also have to note: one of the nicest guys I know dated a woman for a while who always was making sour, bitchy faces. I don't think that was about my friend -- it was about her. (They are no longer together, thank god . She was awful.) It's very tempting to look at Donald Trump and connect Melania's unhappy facial expressions to him (I totally admit I do), but it could also be that those are just her expressions. We don't really know what she's like or what she's feeling.

In that clip from the inauguration, it is most certainly not resting bitch face. Resting being the operative word. She was reacting, not resting.

It looks like she's reacting -- but it could be what her face does when she relaxes it from a smile.
I tend to interpret it as you do, honestly. But it is certainly speculation.
