I need someone more hip than me to explain this to me (I know that's a big ask): Who are these "antifa" turkeys? For those unaware, Berkeley is once again the site of violent clashes between protesters, police, and protesters. It's tough to find an even-handed report on this, but here at least is a report that doesn't blame a side: www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/protesters-in-berkeley_us_58f29223e4b0da2ff8613d17It's the scumbags covering their faces and mostly dressed in black who seem to be the biggest problem, however. Twitter is identifying them as "antifa" (which I assume is supposed to be ant-fascist), though some label these peeps as far right, while some label them as far left. Maybe they're neither? I really don't know, anymore.

Well, I googled it, and found this bit at Wikipedia. (bolding mine) It's a repackaging of the WWII idea that the only solution to the authoritarianism of the right is to replace it with the authoritarianism of the left. Left-socialism as the only solution to right-socialism. A false choice that's no choice at all. Coke vs. Pepsi. Democrats as the antidote to a Republican regime, but on steroids, apt to trigger street violence, thereby leaving the benevolent authorities no option but to step in and crush some more liberties. Which brought back to mind the 20th Century Redux thread. The ruling class is still trying to stuff the Enlightenment genie back in the bottle.

But wait, there's more! Trump needs to latch onto that "Protection Rampart" bit, but I guess "Anti-Fascist" would be a tough sell.
I find the attempt to sell their enslavement to the East German people as "anti-fascism" telling; I guess if they'd called it the "Anti-Freedom Protection Rampart" it would have probably given their game away. In the final analysis, they were selling the wall the same way Trump is; a plan to keep boogymen out.
Gotta have a boogyman to keep people scared.

The current antifas are far-left dipshits who show up at anything involving conservative speakers or conservative rallies/demonstrations and their primary goal seems to be to start shit, provoke the people peacefully gathering, and hope to incite fights and violence. They're the main ones responsible for the violence at the Milo Yiannopolis talk that was called off a month or two ago as well.

Opty's answer is much more pertinent than Don's historical trivia. The "Antifas" are not a coherent movement or ideology or heir to Marxism - they're a bunch of progressives/leftists who fancy themselves standing up to Nazis, "Nazi" being anyone on the right.
What happens is that demonstrators and counter-demonstrators show up, shit gets thrown, and then both sides accuse the other of starting it, of running false flags and inserting violent demonstrators into the other side's ranks, etc.
