I'm not sure what you mean by your post, Rob. "Something is just not right...?" EVERYTHING is not right here.
It's not clear that she was forcibly kidnapped. If not, then for a young girl (Elizabeth) to run off with an older teacher like him indicates that, yeah, her home life couldn't be very good or normal. According to your link, the mom was abusive. IMO, even without those allegations of physical abuse, Elizabeth's mother couldn't be a very good mom, if Elizabeth's little sister calls Elizabeth Mommy.
Could you clarify your post?

You're hitting the stuff that's bothering me, exactly.
But few seem to be talking about it. Mostly, it's just pieces about how bad Cummins is, about how great it is for her to be home, and so on.
My feeling is that she was looking to escape and that Cummins provided the opportunity, even if he was partly driven by sexual desire.

I suspect you're right, Rob. But that aspect is very hard for the media to cover or address without sounding like they're victim blaming. She's a minor and so unable to consent to sex (or anything else really) and the media might worry that suggesting she went with him voluntarily could be equated with her consenting to a relationship. But yeah, weird stuff with the mother and the restraining order. I wonder if we'll ever know the full story.
