Darwin Awards, here's your next candidate: The fact that he was a self-proclaimed "psychic" makes this a bit more comedically tragic. Shouldn't he have (fore)seen this coming? Joking aside, the article said he'd done this before and the blade had broken in past performances. If this was part of a ritual performance, where the sword was a prop that was supposed to break because it was designed to do so, then this is a tragic accident. However, if this was a real blade and he actually believed in the ritual and the prior times that it broke were just dumb luck, then this is proof that many beliefs are really stupid. Wasn't there a Columbo episode (or one of those mystery/detective shows) that revolved around something like this? A magician does a trick using some kind of fake, rigged sharp object, only the villain substitutes a real one in its place?
Maybe it was a murder.

I believe that was an episode of Psych.
ETA: but it wasn't a magician, it was an actor on a Spanish soap opera.
