The above description may be underselling what happened. Local news down here called it a "brawl." My understanding is that an already-boarded flight was cancelled, and many of the passengers on that flight charged the ticket counter pushing past people in line and possibly getting physical with employees.
Of course, we have the recent kerfuffle on the United flight, as well as the fight on Nippon Airways (drunk dude in Hawaiian shirt) , to think about, as well.
In this case, it apears Spirit is having problems with its pilots, which is leading to the cancelled flights (damn unions!).
But a common thread: bad attitudes and dickish behavior, from one direction or the other.
Question: do these incidents reflect a trend (like maybe a steady decline in manners/politeness?) or are they just an insignificant cluster (i.e. incidents like these have always occurred, but we didn't always hear about them or don't remember them)?
Chaos broke out at a Florida airport on Monday after multiple Spirit Airlines flights were canceled, leading to long lines, irate customers and altercations, according to police.
Deputies were called to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to deal with commotion there after several passengers became angry, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
“There were several people there that were upset," Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter told ABC News on Monday. "We were called in to just make sure that things were kept from getting very unruly.”
