ABC has opted to not renew its popular sitcom, Last Man Standing, for a seventh season. And it made this decision with no notice; no one knew the sixth season would be the last so the March 31st episode was the finale.
I've never seen the show. Frankly, I thought it looked like a retread of Home Improvement or--even worse--The Jeff Foxworthy Show. Not interested.
But the show has fans and some of them are annoyed, to the point that they've started petitions. Many of them are assuming that the cancellation is linked to Allen's conservatism and support of Trump. But this Vox article does a good job of explaining a number of reasons why a successful series might be cancelled out of the blue, though it allows there might still be some politics at play.
Meh. I think that if you're outraged--politically--because of a cancelled TV show, you've got bigger problems. It's not like this was Firefly...
ABC has opted not to renew the longtime Friday 8 PM anchor for Season 7 despite the fact that the blue-collar sitcom was ABC’s second most watched comedy this season with 8.1 million viewers in Live +7, only behind flagship Modern Family (8,7 million). It was the third most watched ABC scripted series overall behind Grey’s Anatomy and Modern Family.
