"alpha," as in "alpha male." Also "beta," as in "beta male."
That said, men who categorize themselves and other men this way (it is pretty much always men who do it, in my experience, and they always think they themselves are "alphas") do me a big favor -- I know immediately they are complete douchebags and not worth one second of my time.

Imo, "alpha male" is not a compliment at all. An alpha male DOES have to do those things to prove himself. That's what make him a douchebag alpha male.

Bingo! I see it a lot on LinkedIn. Sounds high falutin, but there's no way of verifying it. The new term, perhaps, for people who judge you and make vague, lofty-sounding recommendations, but don't actually do anything themselves, and have no accountability for the results.
