Look at the homepage of CNN: www.cnn.com/
How many of you check CNN every day, every morning? I do. I go there, the BBC, RCP, and the WSJ every day. And I can tell you, the CNN homepage looks completely different than it did one, two, three weeks ago. Mostly because it's missing a gaggle of stories referencing some sort of Russia-Trump connection. But also because it now actually has a large number of stories that aren't even about Trump.
CNN has had a series of "missteps" this month (to put it mildly). Like a few other outlets, it ran with stories about what Comey would say that turned out to be fundamentally wrong. More recently, it ran the Scaramucci piece, was forced to retract it and actually apologize to Mr. Scaramucci. As this article at the Hill notes, the three people who put that piece together have all "resigned."
There's also the somewhat staged protest in London that it "covered," the Kathy Griffin fiasco, and now the latest O'Keefe videos (which are about CNN peeps "admitting" that there's nothing to all the Trump-Russia stories).
On top of all this, there is imo the rather whiny and unprofessional behavior on social media--specifically twitter--of CNN folks like Cillizza and Acosta.
The first piece at the Hill notes that the Comey and Scaramucci stories both had multiple reporters in the bylines, yet were ultimately based on singular anonymous sources. And in the case of the latter, the team included a Pulitizer-winner. This suggests a serious lack of care on the part of CNN management, imo. It suggests, I think, an intent to punish Trump no matter what. And that's blown up in CNN's face, in Zucker's face, forcing him to make others take the fall here, while simultaneously re-thinking the general tenor of CNN stories.
