Yeah, I was thinking about that the other day. In particular, what would happen if it turned out that Trump (senior) was actually present at this meeting, after he just denied that he even knew about it until recently? I think you're right. Many of his supporters really wouldn't care. He's already lied to them so many times and made them look like fools for believing him; what's one more?

Jr. could post a video of himself giving Putin a lapdance while wearing a tutu, and Trump supporters would scream "fake news!!11!"

^ I once met a Trump supporter who insisted the Access Hollywood tape must've been faked, even though of course Trump apologized for it. I guess it was such a good fake it convinced even Trump himself.

I have no patience and even less time screwing around with stupid people who willfully choose to remain stupid.

"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot someone, and they would still vote for me." - Donald Trump during the Campaign.
I guess he was right.

Someone turned Don Jr.'s email into a folk song, and it's actually rather catchy. link in this tweet.
ETA:

Who knew this meeting would blossom into such a musical bonanza?

The White House acknowledges that Donald Trump Sr. "weighed in" on Don Jr's evasive explanation, "as any father would." www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-trump-son-russia-20170801-story.htmlGot news for you, Don -- most fathers wouldn't "weigh in" on crafting a deceptive message against the express counsel of their attorneys advising them to come clean. Why oh why oh why would ANY lawyer work for these guys? Quite sincerely, I would not do so if they gave me every penny they have. BTW, Trump's lawyer either lied to us, or Trump lied to him about the crafting of the message:

...that was then when Trump was in the dunking tank. ...and this is now, because it makes "Clinton's excuse-matters look pretty bad." Uh-huh. It also makes Trump's excuse-makers look like pretty bad hypocrites. Opposition research is bad when its done by Trump but not so bad when its done by folks in favor of Clinton (but not Hillary Clinton herself). Situational ethics are the best!
