Check out this tweet from Linda Sarsour, a couple of days ago:
It is embarrassingly stupid. And the person who made it--Linda Sarsour--is an activist for Palestine who has also jumped into the Black Lives Matter movement and was part of the 2017 Women's March.
Here is a less-than-favorable story on her: www.thedailybeast.com/linda-sarsour-echoes-donald-trump-smears-cnns-jake-tapper
Here is one that paints her in a more positive light: jezebel.com/the-demonization-of-linda-sarsour-1797537513
She's had some other doozies on twitter, as noted in the above stories. But this current one is just...
But she's a significant player now. She's successfully inserted herself into both the Black Lives Matter movement and is apparently accepted as a feminist.
Frankly, I have a hard time grokking the last. She's more or less stated that one cannot both be a feminist and a supporter of Israel. Yet, women are still second-class citizens in some ways in Palestine (and gay people have it even worse there). This isn't to say that Israel, the US, or anywhere else is perfect in this regard, but I think on the actual evidence, Palestine would be much further down the totem pole. And many countries who support Palestine and Hamas the most are at the absolute bottom, when it comes to Women's rights (the US is at 45 on this list, Israel is at 49).
