I... don't believe it: Tambor has denied all the claims against him. And I admit to my own double standard here, because right now, I believe him. That said, my belief is hardly evidence, and I may have to change my tune. But for me, of all the high profile accusations out there right now, this is--by far--the hardest one to accept. Don't know anything about him or the show. That said: That's the sort of non-apology issued by someone who knows he's in trouble. If the accusations really were outright falsehoods, I'd expect a much stronger denial.

Agree. Sometimes the "apology" tells you as much as the account does.

Agree. Sometimes the "apology" tells you as much as the account does. And that got me looking to see if Franken had responded to this latest accusation. He has. And...yeah. That's a "non-apology." I still think she's likely to be exaggerating the amount of time the ass grab lasted, but I have moved onto team "I believe Franken grabbed her ass." He doesn't remember the photo being taken? WTF, Al.

WTF, Al. I can believe a Senator not remembering every photo he took with someone. I have trouble believing he doesn't remember grabbing someone's ass. Unless ass grabbing is as common for him as photo ops...

Well, that's just it. I don't remember every photo I've taken, either, but I know damn well I never grabbed some stranger's ass.
If accused of it, I wouldn't be saying "oh, I don't remember that photo."

Ok, Vince. I'm confused. The fourth pic down doesn't have Melania in it.

oh -- I get it. Melania's "ass." Sorry. The photoshop brouhaha was in my mind, so I jumped to thinking you'd attached the wrong link rather than a joke!

Oh, look, another douchebag. Those calling for more bipartisanship are apparently getting it. He defends both Franken and Moore! Sitting [Ohio] Supreme Court Justice Bill O'Neill, responding to Franken allegations, claims bedding 50 womenIs this the part of the thread where we all reveal our personal number now?

And...yeah. That's a "non-apology." I still think she's likely to be exaggerating the amount of time the ass grab lasted, but I have moved onto team "I believe Franken grabbed her ass." He doesn't remember the photo being taken? WTF, Al. Franken is still on the same course: not admitting to anything that could be sexual assault. But my two cents on this photo: I think he felt her up, and I have a hunch he's done this a lot, under the guise of "being funny." And I think--initially--she posted the pic and called him a "creeper," because like so many other women, she had been conditioned to kinda accept this shit from some guys (a minority of them, imo*) who are just creepy or slimy. She laughed it off. And I think what is happening now is that a critical mass has been reached, wherein some women are realizing that they shouldn't have to put up with this crap. And I think that's a good thing. So good for her. * Seriously,I think it is very much a minority. But don't get me wrong, that doesn't make it an insignificant number at all. And I think such people--slimy, handsy guys--are probably over-represented in Hollywood (probably Wall Street, as well) and in situations that provide cover for their creepiness. And thinking on this, I think non-creepy guys--like me, of course--have some responsibility here to not put up with it. I'm not saying we need to be a "champions of women" at all. I'm just saying that we should make it a point to ostracize the creeps and--when necessary--tell them to "knock it off."

This is, I think, a pretty good piece on Glenn Thrush, another "champion of women," who has turned out to be something of a douchebag. From it: It seems to me that there is this weird sort of expectation among many middle-aged (and slightly older) men that they can automatically be attractive to much younger women, that they can behave with these women as if they were still in college, still in the swinging singles bar scene, and can "make a move" on such women with relative impunity. As a now-single guy in that age range, I'm perhaps now more acutely aware of this pattern than I ever was in the past.* I think that perhaps there is some conditioning going on in this regard, from "trophy wives" in real life, to what's in the movies (lots of spring-autumn romances idealized). But that shouldn't be an excuse for creepy behavior, at all. * For the record, I don't play this game, because though I certainly see younger women whom I do find attractive when I'm out and about, I'm not into the pick-up game and I honestly can't imagine that someone 20+ years younger than me would a) find me attractive in this sense or b) actually welcome advances from someone in my age range. And I'm never going to "date" someone who has more in common with my daughter than with me, regardless. Some guys really think way too much of themselves...
