OK, that's not the actual headline, but it's the one I'm giving.
Mind you, I do not believe in being a helicopter parent who never lets your 10 year old kid climb a tree, walk down the street alone, etc. And yanno, sometimes kids will be kids and accidents happen and even the best of parents aren't perfect. Yadda yadda. But you know what I don't think you let your 10-year-old kid do, ever? Sit on a fucking railing at the edge of the fucking Niagara Gorge so you can take a fucking photo.

Okay. Ever been to the Niagara Gorge? I grew up in the area. It really, really, really couldn't be more fucking obvious that letting your kid sit on the railing at the edge is a really fucking bad idea. NO ONE should be sitting on the railing. It should be clear from the fact that there is an immediate 100 foot sheer drop right behind you, not to mention deadly rapids and a powerful waterfall and jagged rocks.
Luckily, the kid survived, but he's in the hospital in serious condition.
I seriously shook with anger when I read the article. If the kid was climbing on the railing when his parents' back was turned, I could shake my head and say "well, kids will be kids, at ten I can see how Mom might turn her back on him, she must have been frantic, I'm just glad he's OK" etc.
BUT SHE PUT HIM THERE. TO TAKE A GODDAMN PICTURE. I'm glad he's OK. But really, what the hell was his mom thinking?
ETA:
By the way? If it happened where I'm thinking, the last time I was there the railings in question were round slippery metal railings. It is not like sitting on the edge of a flat wall. Slipping is very obviously a danger. Even if it were a flat railing, of course, it's a bad idea. But a rounded metal one... Gaaah, what was she thinking?

One family's dream vacation at Niagara Falls turned into a nightmare over the weekend when a 10-year-old boy toppled off a railing and fell into a gorge.
Police say the boy was on the Canadian side of the falls when his family decided to take a picture of Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the three falls composing Niagara Falls.
He was sitting on the railing having his picture taken by his mother when he apparently lost his balance, fell over the railing, and plunged 100 feet, injuring his head, the BBC reports.
