Same-Sex Marriage Survey: Australia Says Yes to SSMThis is the result of a nationwide plebiscite. The Government decided that, rather than vote directly, they'd conduct a mail survey first -- then abide by the result. Now it's up to Parliament to keep their word.

Note: Turnbull is from the Liberal Party, the Australian equivalent of the Republicans.
Personally, I'd be happy if civil unions and marriages were distinct, with the Government administering the former and religious organisations the latter. I think making them distinct would resolve the objections of many who do oppose SSM.
But it's a day to rejoice, and those need to be appreciated while they're here.

Lord knows, there hasn't been much to rejoice about lately.

It's sad that in 2017 we need to have a vote on something like this, however, I'm glad it went the way it did.
I've been seeing a few of the usual trolls on Twitter talking about Sodomy and all that. Bleh.

We've seen campaign signs that said, "It's Okay to say No" -- as though they're the ones being bullied. The Anglican Church in Australia contributed $1 million to the No campaign. Which guarantees that my hiatus from the Church is now permanent - not about this issue alone, but that they see fit to become a political agency, and to commit dollars to that end. I'll never put money in a collection plate if it's going to political campaigns.

I don't know about your country, but there are more and more churches popping up around here that are openly welcoming to LGBT.
