Today is gonna be lit. Sens. Coons and Flake have introduced a resolution that would:
1. Commend Mueller probe 2. Agree with I.C. assessment on Russian interference 3. Reaffirm that Russia should be held accountable 4. Call for hearings on Helsinki summit 5. Call for implementation of Russia sanctions
Now that's what I'm talking about. Hurrah, Senators Coons and Flake.

Hey, there is a big silver lining that you're all missing here. Party political tunes are usually cheeze and dire, or both, or they're withdrawn after furious artists object to their use in a campaign.
Now, at the next Republican party congress, there will at least be one good tune.

In a unanimous 98-0 vote, the Senate passed a non-binding resolution expressing opposition to allowing Russia to interview current and former U.S. officials. (If you did not hear, Putin requested that the U.S. send us some U.S. officials he doesn't like so he can "interrogate them," and that asshole Trump has thus far refused to rule out such a measure.)

Jeff Flake is finding his backbone. I mentioned above the measure he introduced to day with Chris Coons. And apparently he is the GOP senator the Hill references here, backing the Dem's demands for the translator's notes from Helsinki so they can find out just what the hell our president promised Putin.
High time the Senate takes back some power from Trump and reins him in. I just hope some other GOPers can find the courage. McCain would do it, I'm sure, if he weren't ill. Maybe Corker? Collins? Murkowski?
Anyway. I've always thought Flake was a decent egg with some integrity, even if I don't agree with his positions on everything. I sincerely hope he stands strong here, and does so more frequently. It is sorely needed.

Flake and McCain have one thing in common....they are both lame ducks, Flake especially.
Flake is all bluster and always has been. I wouldn't hold my breath.

I NEED SOMETHING TO CLING TO!! Well. At least some of our GOP congress critters are finally breaking ranks to join their Dem colleagues in speaking up, and some are even proposing that Congress -- gasp! -- ACT! Will Hurd, former CIA officer and current Republican congressman, has an op-ed in the NY Times: www.nytimes.com/2018/07/19/opinion/trump-russia-putin-republican-congress.html (am posting snippets -- full context at the link) Trump Is Being Manipulated by Putin. What Should We Do?

Trump's back and forth tweets on whether he believes Russia did or did not interfere with the 2016 election are just mind-boggling (spoiler: they unquestionably did and are trying to interfere with the 2018 election). Fun tweet by David French of the National Review:

Why would Obama tell the Trump Campaign? (Okay, maybe the Administration keeps campaigns informed -- I'd be more likely to believe they WERE told and chose to ignore the information -- or they were screening calls, saw it was the White House, and flat-out didn't pick up the phone.)
I've long clung to the notion that Trump isn't dumb - I mean, he's a Wharton grad, so he MUST be very bright... right? He's just narcissistic, corrupt, and a compulsive liar*.
But if you offered me odds on the frequency of his lecture attendance while at Wharton, and set the mark at 50%, I'd go all in on the under.
--
*: ETA -- I don't think he means specifically to lie. He just says shit, and truth is not a factor to him. I think he'll tell the truth sometimes, in the same way that a stopped clock is right twice a day.

It's not Trump's fault that he has a head full of angry bumblebees. It could happen to anyone.

It's important to keep up with the hip lingo. No doubt a whole new world of meaning has opened for you. Not to mention an image of bees swarming in and out of Trump's ears and building nests in his bouffant.

And here we thought bees were endangered. Who knew Trump was such a conservationist?
I can sleep easy now. Thank you ever so, Cass.
